What brand of TV do you have? TV's like samsung's for example have the menu which you scroll though to pick the input. For TV's like these the harmony has to use a "discrete" code to go DIRECTLY to that input.

I'm not sure exactly on how to set that up but they helped me set it up with my 2 samsung TV's over the phone. I'm sure you can google it and find the instructions!

i spent about 45 min searching the logitech harmony forums while on hold to no avail

i spent over an hour with tech support, the first person i talked to made it worse and she f-ed up a lot of the settings. got a good work out running up and down staris. second person got it almost working correctly but had to defer my case to the "coders" i guess the one has to return to the source...

My tv is a sharp blu-ray tv combo i have one button to pick inputs the first press brings up the input selection screen, continue pressing to highlight the desired input and then the tv switches to that input.

i did read about a guy who found a magic code that selected specific inputs that was not avail on the original remote. but i think his was a samsung as well, and i dont know if the sharp tv has such a hidden feature.

edit: just read about a tv feature that i have enabled that will mess with the remote i KNOW i have this feature enabled so when i get home i will disable it and see if it fixes the issue.

the "aquos link" feature will change the tv input when a device connected to it powers on. dont know if this is prob but will update when i test later.

i had to disable something similar on my sony blu-ray player that allows it to talk to the tv via hdmi as in if i turn off my tv the player turns off or if the input for the player gets selected it will power on and this also allows my tv remote (original) to control the blu ray player.

Step one, return Harmony remote.
Step two, buy real remote.
Step three, enjoy happy viewing.

completely forgot about this thread I contacted customer support and they was able to program my remote to be able to directly select any input. This is a feture not on the original remote. This was a result of more searching and finding out that many devices have what are called "discrete" commands there were litteraly over 20 commands that my tv had that WAS NOT on the factory remote. Logitec guys where able to program my remote with these additional commads and it works like it should.

This issue was solved a little while after i started this thread but i forgot about it so i decided to post the result incase someone else searches for this issue.

One of the reasons that Harmony is so undesirable is because of its use of state tracking and power toggles. It creates many issues and with a user that is not very technical, becomes hugely frustrating. All pro remotes utilize discrete commands, which is the proper way to program a universal remote. For those that do not know, a toggle command is one code that does more than one function, such as the power button on your TV's remote. You press POWER while it is off, and the TV turns on. If the TV is on and you press the same button, it will turn off. Discrete commands will only perform one discrete function. Power on = power on and ONLY power on. Power off = power off and ONLY power off. When programmed properly with discrete commands, everything that you want to be on will be on, and you will not have issues with devices turning off when they should be on.

So, when you point your remote using toggle commands, press Watch TV, and it sends a series of commands, if the signal does not reach all the equipment, perhaps because someone walked in front of the beam, one device may not turn on. Harmony remotes utilize a help button that keeps asking you yes or no questions. It works, but is clunky and slow. With a remote using discrete commands, if the same thing happens, you simply go to your main menu and press Watch TV or whatever you have named it again, and it will fix the issue. If you try this same technique with a remote programmed with toggle commands, the device that was off will turn on, but everything else will now shut off.

i have all the discret commands in my remote now so i can do the pwr on/off instead of the toggle. so i dont have the issue you mentioned it would have been nice for them to automatially add them instead of me having issues and having to call them. once i did get them in i love it the only thing i would change is add a paging feature to the charge base so you press a button and the remote beeps.

appantly with the older harmony remotes you could add in your own discrete commands by manually putting the code in with your computer but the one you cant do that one at least that was what i got from a online community when i was searhing my issue.

I don't recall ever being able to add discrete codes yourself to a Harmony. I haven't touched them all that much in the last several years though. When I did years ago, you could not. I have programmed a few here or there for customers that already had them, and everytime it has been a headache. With a pro remote, you already have them in their database as well as (on most, not all) the ability to add your own hex codes. This is extremely valuable as many companies will publish their hex codes that are not in anyone's databases.
