Help Me Pick A TV!!

Hey, looking for someone that knows a bit more than those idiot Best Buy guys, about LCD TVs. My budget is around 800, since thats what I've saved up over the summer. Let me know!

Here are the choices!:

Vizio 37 inch

Sharp 37
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=9135652

Toshiba 37
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1202648528342

Dynex 37

Dynex 42 PLASMA

without looking at any of them, I'd choose the sharp cause Vizio is cheap and dynex is a BB store brand. So yeah sharp>toshiba>vizio>>Dynex

Vizio. Of the choices it's the best. Sharp is close behind, but has banding issues in the older 720p models. Vizio should be about $100 cheaper. Put that money towards HD and use an HDMI cable to connect.

I say the very last one...the 42 Dynex.

Not because (or at least not only because ) it's bigger, but it's 1080p.

If you are going to chuck out that much for a TV, IMO you might as well just pay a little extra to get 1080p. Don't low-ball and get a 720.

I WISH I could afford a Pioneer.

IMO, they're the best flat-screen tv manufacturer.

They make nice plasmas, but I don't think an 18-year old is going to find one for $800 outside of a Harlem fence shop.

But resolution isn't everything. A 720p set can look better than a shitty 1080p set which uses cheap components. Which is probably what is happening here. If the 1080p set is the same price as a 720p and it's made by fucking best buy than that 1080p is gonna suck donkey balls. You're buying into the marketing numbers game much like the megapixel war. Just cause it has more megapixels doesn't mean it takes better pictures. A 6MP camera can make way better less noisy pictures than a 10MP camera. The Dynex is a cheap store brand display, I would avoid it at all costs.

For TVs under 50 inches, you won't see a difference in 720p and 1080i/p. It's not the brand and/or quality of the TV, it has more to do with the eye's capabilities. When you go to 50 inches or more and you're sitting the same distance from the TV, the image is blown up enough to start noticing a difference between these resolutions.

I have two Vizios - They're all Sony Components at half the price... Excellent TV's. I have a Phillips in my dorm room and it can't hold a candle to the Vizios.

And I'll disagree with your opinion like I have with anyone who likes plasmas more.

The Pioneer Kuro is indeed an amazing set. I was just looking at one yesterday. But after that even pioneer is getting out of the plasmas.

Samsung has been the number one in flat screen TVs as far as I'm concerned. You want proof...Go look at their new LNT series that JUST started arriving in high stores this week. The 905 series I think, not even on Samsungs website yet. LED backlit, fast reponse time and refresh. Amazing black levels.

I looked at it side by side to a Kuro...both are amazing. Both look great. Nearly indistinguishable....cept the Samsung is half the price, uses less energy, and will outlive the plasma.

I also looked at the new 11" OLED from Sony....which is MIND BLOWING how good it looks.

plasma is old news, has been for years. but people have been hung up on it for some odd reason. And unless you spent the money on TOP of the line plasmas...they were typically shite. bad color gradation, color bleeding, not sharp, noisy, terrible when compared to a cheaper LCD.

Panasonic has been the number 1 for flat screen plasmas for the past 2 years.

I just bought a TH-50PZ80U 1800 bucks at CC but it is worth it once I get the break in time done and all the color calibrated.

• 1080p resolution
• 3 HDMI inputs
• HD tuner
• 20,000:1 contrast ratio
• 480Hz sub-field drive
• Anti-Reflective filter
