Help finding a LCD/Plasma TV

I'm looking to buy a LCD or Plasma as a gift for someone. It has to be 32" no smaller. What sites do you use to find great deals on electronics? Walmart has a 32" Emerson LCD for $500, but I'm not familiar with the brand and I think I've seen them go for a little cheaper online.

Brand and picture quality isn't very important, but I'd like the tv to be somewhat decent and reliable.

If you're looking for value, Vizio is pretty solid. They're sold at Costco and Circuit City. You can also check out the Philips online outlet store:

we have an emerson LCD and well, its not all that great.

hung it on our kitchen wall and picture quality aint good, felt flimsy plastic and the remote was the generic sylvania, insignia emerson remote...

not all that reliable or built with quality parts... on the same walmart page similar items

It really doesnt seem like you listened to anyone the magnavox IMO are pure anus.....i mean 699 is not a bad price for a 37 but the vizio is only 100 more brand new with a 1 year warranty instead of the 90 days you got on the phillips also the vizio is a very well reviewed and constantly listed as the best value for the money they are great sets and their customer service is fantastic.

i honestly don't know much about tv's or how to compare one to the other when the subtilties are so miniscule. on paper the 37" vizio i assume your talking about is identical to the 37" magnavox except the the magnavox has a greater contrast ratio (1200:1 vs 1000:1)

if you could, please show me where the vizio model your talking about outshines the magnavox i bought so i can keep that in mind if i go tv shopping for myself in the future. why do you say magnavox pure anus? which vizio model is the one getting the good reviews? while searching i noticed there seem to be different calibers of vizio lcd's, the more expensive ones being a dramatic step up in quality. i'd really appreciate the info!

also i got the magnavox for $580 with the father's day promo on the site!

I was in the market for a 37 inch tv and was not looking to spend an arm and a leg. I did alot of research as well as alot of in store comparison before buying. The main thing about vizip is the no bright pixel warranty, and the level of customer service they provide. I have worked in electronics sales prior to coming into the military and part time since then and have seen very high levels of failure and general dissatisfaction with magnavox products.

As far as contrast ratio there is no industry standard for measurement so numbers almost mean nothing.

I own the vizio vx37 and bought it refurbed from tigerdirect for 499.99 when it arrived it had 1 stuck pixel i called vizio that evening and 1 week later a new tv was at my door and my old one was on a ups truck back to vizio. The picture quality and picture adjustment features are awesome. The number of inputs and contrast is also very good. Cnet gave the vizio pretty good reviews although the score doesnt really reflect the wording of the review imo.

But like I said I am just speaking from personal experience with the products and reading up on AVSForums.com is also where i do alot of my research.
