Harmony One versus 880

One is the latest and greatest, 880 older, but a ton of features...can be had for $100 less.

Any reason to get the ONE over the 880?

I've got an 880 and can't justify replacing it with the One... Especially after reading some comments from various owners that have had both. Check out this thread on AVSForum:

Yeah there are a few things that I don't like...
- There's a delay for everything. I've spent literally hours on the setup program trying to get the delays down to a point where they work and aren't too bad but it's still a pain sometimes.
- I also think the lower IR eye on the remote (the one used to learn) is busted on my remote since it can't ever recognize any signals from another remote - which means I've got to rely on the Logitech DB.
- The LCD sucks. You can almost see the pixels switching on/off.
- My Sharp TV (LC-32G4U) is a real PITA when switching inputs, since it's a cycling selection not a direct selection. This means the 1/3 times when switching activities, I land on the wrong TV input. I can't get the remote to time things right so it's more accurate
- Sometimes the key backlighting stays on (although the LCD backlight goes off) This is rare, but it happens. Even left on overnight, I've yet to run out of battery.

But overall, I'm happy with it. The advantages, ease of use and ergonomics make up for its shortcomings.

overall, I am extremely happy with my 880. Not many quirks, runs smoothly... I have not looked into the "one" so I can't comment on that. If the savings are significant on the 880, get on that ASAP. The only negative thing about the 880 is that I've heard some ppl having issues with gaming systems... I don't game, so no issues here.

Harmony One vs. the 890 would probably be a better comparison. I currently have an 880 and love it, but am looking to upgrade to an 890 to get RF control for multi-room operation.

You can definitely get an 880 from quite a bit less, but I'd check the 890 since you are considering the One.

I have the One and I LOVE IT.

You cant beat have pages and pages of soft buttons on the touch screen. Its also designed very svelte and comfortable to hold.

The URC MX900 has discreet input commands in it's IR database. No delays either. I don't think you can import hex codes with a harmony, so you might be out of luck. Unless you get the needed hex code, and send it to harmony's support, they probably can import it.

The One has fewer activities and functions per screen. With my activities and particularly PVR/media center setup I use all 8 on the 890/880.

Well yeah, they all do that. The point is that some PVRs use more oft-used custom buttons than 6. It'll work, you'll just have to scroll between the pages.

The Harmony One has all the PVR buttons set up on them down near bottom like a normal cable box remote. I dont even really use the soft buttons to operate that...just "list" to take me to my PVR record listing.

Finally bought a Harmony One after Logitech released its PS3 adapter, which has been getting really good reviews. For anyone who has a PS3 and a Logitech universal remote, this looks like the answer.
