Got the itch for a new Sound system

to compliment my new tv...(current audio surround system is a cheapie)

problem is, there's like thousands of awesome recievers and speakers...

so i come to the resident pro's here and ask whats a good system. Max price for the whole set up like $400-600. I like bass, and good quality sound.

Reccomendations?

I'm no audiophile, but i just picked up a HTIB (home theater in a box) system....I got the Onkyo HT-S7100...it can be had at shoponkyo.com for $430!! Yes, it is a refurb and you do need to sign up for their club onkyo (free) and you also get 10% off right now...but once you take a look at the specs, its not a bad package for the price! 7.1...4 HDMI inputs...HDMI audio processing...and the list goes on and on... i'd check out www.avsforum.com and navigate to their HTIB section under home audio...best of luck!

400-600 for the receiver alone....is pretty decent.

....if you include all your 5.1 or 7.1 speakers in that price, don't expect much.

If he's asking which "sound system" to get, he'll only care that it sounds better than his TV speakers.

As I stated in another post. Get a receiver that supports HDMI audio for the TrueHD/DTS-HD codecs like Reflex's. You'll hear these tracks when you get that $100-200 Blu-Ray player that keeps dropping in price.

You want a HTIB with HDMI capable of 1080P playback (several of the cheapie hdmi only support 1080i, or at least they did, might have changed)

if they make them, you want a HTIB where the receiver is capable of upconverting to 1080p through the HDMI output to the TV.

Do you have cable TV? does your cable have hdmi? Stick to what I said if you answered no to the latter. Or if you have a Wii.

The Onkyo HTIB's that support HDMI audio are supposed to be pretty good. I think they're around your peak. Their's a Sony SS2300 and Samsung 720 that are like $400-500 but not as good. 6ave.com usually has good deals on the Onkyo.
