Energy EF-500 Tower Speakers

Just picked up a pair for $163 shipped

I've been wanting to start upgrading my speakers for years. Upgraded my center channel to a klipsch when a friend decided to sell his for a bigger one...now this super sale has me finally upgrading my front surrounds.

Stoked!!!! I've always liked Energy a lot...so hopefully these are a good set. Its not their higher end line...but for the price, can't beat it.

PS: The deal is on Newegg.com....there is a code to take $250 off the price...deal ends 12/26

Enjoy.

That's a good price. I still use my old Energy 8" sub for my system. I have to keep it turned down quite a bit or it rattles the mirror in my front entrance. I try to timbre match speakers in a system and always recommend it, although if you ear isn't trained it wouldn't matter too much. Even if you do have a good enough ear, it's hard to pass up on a pair of decent towers for $163.

My ears are not trained at all. I've been living with the same small consumer sony satellite set up for the last 10 years.

But I also live in a condo...so without a room dedicated to a home theater I havent really been in a rush to really upgrade.

When my receiver took a crap a few years ago I did get a Yamaha RV1800 I think..I think thats the model...its one of the higher end units that I got for a good deal.

My center channel sucked and hearing dialogue was a pain, and I couldnt get the system calibrated any better so when a friend of mine founda klipsch ref series center for sale, I bought his old klipsch center for like $40 bucks and its been a lot better.

So...right now my system is a big mish-mosh...Klipsch Center, Energy front surrounds, Sony satellites for the rear and a Sony sub.

The rears and the sub are fine for now...the sub is plenty powerful...i only have it cranked about halfway. And the rears...are rears...just fill and ambient.

The EF500s probably wouldnt have even been my first choice...but you cant beat that price and for my untrained ears im sure they will be great. And I'll start keeping my eyes open for deals on other energy speakes to match my set.

Looks good. Gotta tuck that wire and wire strap up behind the TV. Will look very clean after that.

I gave up on tucking the wires...I have the TV pulled out and cantered to the right a lot when I sit in our big comfy chair and the cables need the slack.

It drives me nuts, but I haven't bothered to really deal with it. I forget about it half the time now.

Hell, the fact I can't get the appleTV to sit straight because of the stiff HDMI cable bothers me!!!

I hate installing AppleTV's for that reason. Also hate the fact there is no longer analog outputs. I have actually hidden the AppleTV behind equipment on some systems because it just would not sit strait without gluing the damn thing down.

Not sure which arm you have, but on most you can loosely tie wrap the wires up to the arm. As long as they have enough length, they will not droop down but will have the slack needed to position the arm the way you wish.

Do you have either the VMAA18 or VMAA26? The 18 doesn't swivel much, but the 26 gives you decent motion. With this mount you could definitely tie wrap the wires up loosely like I said above.

If it is in fact the VMAA26, then it came with small plastic black pegs that you insert into the top or underside of the arm. They have slots to feed cable ties through. The arm came with some cable ties, but they are super thing and can break easily with a little tension. If you still have them, you can pop them in, and I would recommend using a better set of cable ties. Just tie them loosely so the there is some slack for the cables to move a bit.

Sorry. Not my intention. Being that it is my business to make tv's look good, I guess I am sensitive to it.

Just missing out on the latest goodies. And I know how much you love 3D and that receiver can't pass a 3D signal.

In looking at his equipment, I would say the only device that would pass 3D is the PS3. If he really did care about it, he could feed a HDMI directly to the TV and feed a toslink cable to the receiver. His TV is not 3D anyway. Any other streaming services can be done through other various devices. So no, no reason to upgrade. As soon as you do, a new feature will be released anyway and then you'd have to upgrade again.

I honestly do not care about 3D...at all.

My gear should last me some time....though I do wish I had the $3k lying around for a 65" Samsung....

Of course if I had 3k lying around I'd probably put it towards modding my car...

priorities...

I haven't sold any yet. I saw an Elite at my distributor and it was pretty nice. I didn't have much time to really check it out though when I was there as I was going for Yamaha training. I have a quote out for a 70" right now. If all goes well and I land the job, I will let you know what I think about it.

Yes and no. You really have to sit a distance from the TV. And $4200+ is quite a hit to the wallet. But if you want the biggest set there is, you'll have to pay.

I'm leaning towards the 70" 735 from Sharp. Gets me 3D and they're running right around $2800.

I know the comment about the 80" sharp is old, but I wanted to give my

It has decent black levels and color. It is fucking huge, but the one thing that stood out to me was the noise level. The picture, especially in the blacks had a lot of noise. It could be the signal, but the source looked clean on other TV's playing at Fry's. Will you notice it from 20'? Probably not, but definitely from 5-10'.

Also, some minor artifacting in fast action sequences.

I dont trust Frys or how any box stores set up their TVs.

I shot a commercial last month and we rented the 70" for use in the spot...but I didn't have the time or the ability to concentrate on how great or OK the overall quality was...I was wearing too many hats on set.
