Dynamic Contrast vs. Native Contrast....

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the exact definition. of dynamic contrast and native contrast. I know native is the true contrast, vs dynamic being used on some tvs to make it seem like they are better. Are the 10,000:1 contrasts on plasma's native?

I see samsung lcds, they seem to always list dynamic contrasts; you'll see a 32" sammy with 4000:1 Contrast and then right next to it a sony with 1600:1 Contrast, which I'm guessing is native, because the picture on both look similar. I also know there isn't a real standard for measure contrast is that correct?

Contrast Ratios are overhyping by the manufacturer. Just trust your eye when doing the TV comparison. If your eyes say "look good", then it must be good. Forget all the muble and jumble marketing term.

AVSForums.com is probably the best place to do any A/V research a quick search on that board should answer alot of your questions.

Typically I will compare contrast ratios within the same brand. For example, Samsung's latest LCD has a 10,000:1 contrast ratio (probably dynamic) versus a 6,000:1 for their previous model. It is a noticeable difference, but not that much over Sony's 2,500:1 (probably native) listing.
