Dumb question of the day - Mac users...

I've got a Sony Cybershot with a usb port link - shouldn't my new i-Mac recognize this?

wtf - my first apple computer since the AppleIIe I used in fifth grade. Aren't these supposed to be easy?

You may have to change the preferences of the Imge Capture application. There's a setting "When a camera is connected open..."

I'm doing everything correctly according to this:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304739

The only thing it could possibly be is a bad USB wire, but my camera says "USB Mode Normal"

Ya, that's what I thought - have no clue what an ID-10t error is though.

Me+computer=

I'm a bit ticked at the apple folks, had been waiting patiently for Leopard, already donated my Dell, and specifically called to ask WHEN they would be shipping the new i-Mac's WITH Leopard PRE-INSTALLED. Was assured that they were shipping pre-installed - lo and behold get my shiny new i-Mac with teh friggin update disc.

Installed Leopard, got locked out because Leopard changed me from Admin to Standard, had to call Mumbai and speak with my pal Crazy Sellout for 35 minutes.....aaaargh!!!!

I'm gonna go to the Apple Store today.

Okay, I'm not getting owned by teh mac.

Turns out the Cybershot DSC-T1 driver is not supported by Sony for Leopard. Hadn't realized how old my camera was, it's already 4 years old which is ancient in digi-cam years.

Time for a new camera apparently. Thanks for the words of encouragement

huh? Driver?

The camera should be recognized with no drivers. What happens when you plug it in and start up iphoto or image capture? Neither sees the camera?

A quick google came up with this... Looks like some users in Tiger (10.4) had to make this change.

In the Setup 2 menu of the camera, under "USB Connect", choose "PTP" instead of "Normal". (Refer to page 107 of the Sony DSC T1 manual).

Yep. Trust me, I took it to the apple store and confounded the geeks there too. Basically, they told me to buy a newer camera or buy a USB card reader.

If you are on i-chat, you can take a peaksie if you are smarter than the Apple store folks.

I'm over due for an upgrade anyways - think I'm gonna get a new Hi-Def HDD Sony recorder/camera, just saw it at Costco for $899.

Ya, I did try it - tengo nada.

The camera was a gift from my wife's sister a few years ago and it was purchased in Japan, dunno if that has anything to do with it. I lost the manual when we moved recently.
