Computer Help

My mom (72) just received a computer from my brother, he got her a used laptop (Dell). This is her first computer...ever. I've had tech support access my computer and basically had control remotely. Can this be done between 2 home computers? I'd like to access hers ( she's in Texas and I'm in Florida) and see what she has on it and maybe help her when she has simple problems. Thanks for any suggestions.

What is the operating system on her/your computers?

Stunna has a flowchart for this I think.

Log me in rescue was something my old company used to use to remote into computers to troubleshoot.

If she has xp or vista you can try remote assistance (built into windows)

realvnc, but going to require more config to do so.

If you can get something like TeamViewer or even Hamachi + a VNC server installed, you'd be set.

TeamViewer is pretty easy...if you're able to walk her through downloading it and launching it (there is a version that doesn't require an installation), you can take over from there and set things up for future remote sessions.

Thanks everyone for your help. I have XP and her laptop is a 2004 model, so I'm not sure yet, but will try to find out. Is there a site that maybe has a walk-through?

Thunder and Whiskers, thanks I downloaded Teamviewer. It appears to be the simplest approach. She won't even have to download the software. Now to get her on the internet

Thanks again

He,He, yeah... right? What I was meant was getting service in her house to provide it. I've told her no dial-up, but she has no idea what I'm talking about, so I'll have to wait and see
