Brand whoring HDMI cables ?
Does it matter ? I was looking at Monster, but those jokers are pricey. I also was looking at some RCA, which are substantially cheaper, but I know are probably still a quality product.
I have Monster Component cables, and a Monster THX S-Video cable.

the only differences between HDMI cables is that the thicker the gauge the longer the signal can travel.
buy from monoprice.com, go for the cheapest they have unless your trying to go over 15-25ft.

I bought my HDMI cables for $1.35 each from Amazon. Been running for 2 months with zero problems. HDMI cables are digital, meaning, the signal is either there or it's not. You won't get better signal from an overpriced cable.
Same with optical cables. I bought them for like $.58 each from Monoprice and they work like a dream.

Basically, DIGITAL cables either work or they don't. Price/Brand shouldn't matter.
ANALOGUE cables, on the other hand, may be worth spending more money onthem as the quality of the wiring/shielding can affect the signal much more than with digital cables.
HDMI cable - go with the cheapest that works.
Speaker Cable - spend the money on quality line.

Like others said, monoprice is the shit. I've got a 3' HDMI form them and the build quality is fanstastic. The cable was like $10 or something like that.
I also had ordered a 3' toslink optical audio cable from them to hook up the macbook to the receiver and that's been working great for a while now.I can't remember how much this one was, but I do remember I bought it from their ebay store, not their website, since it was cheaper.

monoprice, FTW, no reason to go anywhere else. I just ran a 25 foot hdmi cable (24 awg) that i got for 22 bucks at monoprice and have 0 video degrading..
here is a reviewer that did testing on most of the monoprice cables..

I recently had the opportunity to test Monoprice HDMI cables with equipment
running at 1080p 60Hz with HDCP 148.5MHz The results were very positive.
Please note that success at 1080p depends on a lot of factors including quality
of TMDS transmitters, receivers, and anything you might have connected to the
cables like HDMI switches, repeaters, HDMI>DVD adapters, etc., therefore these
test results should be taken as a data point and not as a guarantee the cables
will be problem free @ 1080p with your specific equipment.
For example, during initial testing I had discovered through process of elimination
that one of the HDMI>DVI adapters I was using could not reliably pass 1080p. At
first I thought the cables were the issue, but after switching out the adapters, the
cables worked great.
Also please note, even though some of these cables are listed as only 1080i certified,
they did nevertheless pass 1080p without issues for the equipment combination I used.
See this post for what was tested at the factory:

The process of listing a cable as passing visual inspection involved looking at black
screen for 30 seconds to detect sparkles, then watching video for 1 minute to detect
additional artifacts.
Sharp LC45GX6U is a 1920x1080 LCD display which accepts 1080p and 1080p/hdcp when
devices are connected directly to the panel, bypassing the external video processor.
Hope you find this information useful.

I just boughht 2x6' HDMI M/M cables from monoprice, as well as a digital audio cable from them at the same time. Total shipped to Canada wa $19.xx. Hell of a deal considering the cheapest HDMI cables found locally were in the $35+ range.
I was going to order from Amazon.com but they don't have the best selection when looking for more than one type of product on the same order, since it appears many of their products are drop-shipped from their suppliers. Can't combine shipping if it's from two separate suppliers.

A while ago someone on the avsforum dissected a monoprice cable and a monster cable and found them to be pretty much identical inside. And based on what c0v3rr1d3 posted, it looks like someone else ran some tests more recently.
With the exception of one Monster cable I bought when I was naive all other cables have been from Monoprice.com....
For those of you with HDMI 1.3a/b devices (supporting Deep Color / xvYCC & DTS-HD MA) try to buy monoprices HDMI 1.3 certified cables, or buy from Blue Jeans Cable (all of their cables are tested up to 350mhz, most of monoprices are only tested to 140mhz).
People have been finding alot of the HDMI 1.2 rated cables to not handle the bandwidth needed for 1.3 over runs as little as 3ft.

Monoprice is the shit, I bought a 50ft S-Video with audio Rca's for like 12 bucks and a second 12 foot S-video for 3 the whole order with shipping to canada was like 29 bucks. The build quality is very high and the signal is great. I just ordered some more 3.5mm-Rca cables cause the current ones I have the shielding is toast and all I get is feedback. Monoprice FTFW!!!!

I've got mine hooked up via HDMI for the 1080p output. The image is fantastic, and the hookup is very simple since both audio and video run over the same link.

What TV do you have Adam? I'm still waiting for my RPTV CRT to break; in some ways I don't want it too... Seems there's so many technology glitches in all the LCDs and the 1080p Plasmas around 65" are too $$.

Last October I completely redid my home theater, and bought a couple of HDMI cables from Monoprice -- one to connect my BluRay player to the receiver, and one to connect the receiver to the TV through the wall.
In November, the HDMI cable between the TV and the receiver. Yesterday, the cable between the BluRay and the receiver went bad.
I'm done with Monoprice. The price is good, but the cable reliability (at least for the HDMI cables) leaves a lot to be desired.

Always had great luck with monoprice, for HDMI's, all the 12awg wiring for the surrounds, 12ft sub cable, and all worked great, and the price was unreal!!! Just picked up a 75ft sub cable from avrite.com in WI, and it worked great...
