Angry arghhh couldn't do it!!

I went into Best Buy earlier this week and saw that their Sony 60" SXRD was on sale for $3399.99 (Regularly $4499.99). I went out their to get it today, but I then noticed that there was a 61" JVC HD-ILA for $500 cheaper and to me the picture on the JVC looked better. Although the Sony TV itself looks more attractive than the JVC, the picture on the JVC was more crisp and the colors didn't seem to run together like it did on the Sony. I spent over an hour comparing the two TV's and the JVC's picture simply looked better to me. I asked the Best Buy guy why was this so and he said that the bulb probably needed calibrating on the Sony, he then went into his sales pitch about how their service plan covers stuff like that. Anyway I was all set to get the Sony today until I saw how much better the JVC looked, eventhough the Sony has better specs.

The Sony goes back up to $4499.99 tommorow, but I just didn't feel right rushing into a decision tonight. I am back to square one now. What is HD-ILA? is it better than DLP? SXRD? Safe for consoles? Does JVC make good TV's? Which one would you guys get? JVC 61" HD-ILA or Sony 60" SXRD?

I throw in my

I used to be pro-sony...bascially a sony fanboy.

I drooled over that 60" XBR LCoS tv...and it is touted and does have the best black levels of any non-tube TV on the market right now.

THEN, I was in a Frys one day. And saw this TV next to the 50 whatever inch Samsung DLP.

1) The colors in the Sony are over saturated (on purpose) and while I'm sure can be tweaked with calibration...was toooooo saturated.

2) Sony uses that high gloss coating over the screen, like the viao laptops...too reflective.

The DLP has much more natural looking colors (skin tones, etc) and had a matte finsih screen.

I'd still need to see a DVD in both with a more scrutinizing eye...but the DLP won me over Sony. I was quite frankly shocked.

AND it was like the straw that broke the camel's back with me and sony. I have been taking serious issue with them ever since they introduced their HDV camera and its just keeps going downhill.

Oh...and to answer your other question...

The Sony and the JVC are BOTH LCoS technology (Liquid Crystal on Silicon.) They just use different names to promote it.

Thanks! Funny you mention Samsung, I think I saw the 61" version of the one you were talking about yesterday in another Best Buy. The first Best Buy I went to had a space for the samsung, but the dispay model wasn't there anymore.

I went to this other best buy to see if another SXRD looked as "bad" (relatively speaking) as it did in the first store I went to. This time the Sony was beside the Samsung and again the Samsung looked better than the SXRD when compared side by side. I even asked the guy in the other Best Buy did he feel the same way and he said yes and he also was not that impressed with the SXRD. The Sony did go off of sale yesterday so the price is back up to $4500.

I asked the Best Buy guy how could Sony charge $1200 more when the Samsung looked better. he basically told me that Sony is basically charging for their name, but he agrees that picture and colors are clearly off on the TV. He also mentioned that he was sick of Son'y s comericals that claimed that the SXRD was the best TV ever made. I never seen that commercial, so I am guessing that it was something that Sony sent exclusively to retail chains to them to help sell their TV's. And like you mentioned, he also told me that Sony is using JVC's technology in the SXRD.

I have a ton of Sony electronic products, but Im not too impressed with this SXRD at least not for the price. But I feel a lot better knowing that it's not just me.

The guy at the other Best Buy was all but forcing me to buy the Sony when it was on sale; I'm glad I declined. The Sony is officially off my list and I am down to the JVC and Samsung now.

Samsung DLP: HL-S6187W

JVC HD-ILA: HD61G887

I would go with the Samsung...I just don't care for JVC...but maybe they have gotten better over the years.

Most people on here are very happy with their samsungs.

That's the Samsung I'll be getting in a few months. Either that or the HL-S6188W with PIP and 10-bit processing, depending on the price difference.

I went to Sound Advice and to me, the best overall color was in the Pioneer Elite's.. the blacks were outstanding.. But these babies were about 4g's and up.. too much for me.

If you go Sammy... wait for the rest of the 2006 models to come out. 1080p via HDMI and the LED light engine replacing the color wheel. I believe the 56" is either about to ship or just shipped. Other sizes with the new features should be out later this year...
