Those prices are horrible compared to TX. 240K will put you in a 2000-2500 sq ft on .25 acre new build in Dallas/FW (on average, there are high and low areas in every urban area)

Brand new is the only way to go . BTW, if we ever decided to leave Charlotte, I'd look into Texas. Some great deals down there

For real. Things seem dirt cheap there, although I' not sure why..especially with the booming oil and gas industry

2006. $342.5k Near west suburb of Chicago. 3br/ 2 bath. Older house built in1958 in perfect but dated condition. All brick split level. 1800 sq ft.
Pulled a Soopa and gutted the whole house . But worth it. UNLIKE him, i payed someone to do it. Didn't have the patience or the time.
I have a big 2.5 car detached garage.

It is strategically located next to 3 major highways.
Very happy.
Plan on staying here for a while.

Northern Virginia might as well be a state. There are all kinds of different areas that you do and don't want to be in.

My first purchase was a

950 sqft 2 bed / 2bath in Tyson's Corner (Fairfax, VA).
One garage spot, 2 outside parking spots
$407.5K in early 2005

but technically I bought my current home first (money down in 04)
800 sq ft 1 bed / 1 bath +den in Arlingotn, VA near EFC metro
$387K with one garage space @ $20K (ouch!)

DINK for life.

Where in NoVA are you buying? Seems awfully cheap for the area unless it's some shitty part of town.

That isn't bad at all (for CA). I've seen some ridiculous prices for one bed one bath places recently.

Condo 12th floor of 13
Had to redo the whole apt because they still had 30 year old fixtures since the day the building was put up.

first was in 2003. I paid $180,000 for my 960 sq. ft. 2 bed 1 bath house on a 14,000 sq. ft. lot. The property also had a 1080 sq. ft. 2 story insulated/heated shop.

I sold that home in 2005 for $240,000.

I've bought 3 more homes since then. all brand new.

this last one that I'm currently living in I just bought for $253,000. It appraised at $350,000.

Bought in Jan 06
1400sq feet 3 bedroom ranch w/2 car attached garage
Very nice finished basement
Nice above ground pool
Good school district
Low taxes ($2500/yr)

Paid $204k, worth about that now. The housing market sucks in metro Detroit but my job is good and I like the house. Prob live here for 5-6yrs and then get something with some land.
