Working on the house (before and afters...more to come)

I closed on my house on May 6th....and on my 7th, the work began!
We are ripping up all of the carpet and putting brazillian cherry in the living room and dining room. We are covering the engineered maple in the family room with carpet. everything in the entire inside of the house is getting painted. We already had 3 trees removed and the other ones pruned. Its a good chunk of change, but we have the money and we might as well do it now....while we can.

Here is the living room and dining room before and during....

....during,

Nice.. I like wood floors better than carpet.. I'll probably resurface my floors soon since my dogs have left nail marks in them

If the finish isn't compromised, why bother? They're just going to immediately make more nail marks when you're done.

Nicky, was the flooring prefinished (can't tell in the picture)?

Brazilian cherry is beautiful but tends to fade in direct sunlight. If it's unfinished, pay the extra money and have a top-quality UV poly layered on top. Multiple coats.

There are some really bad spots that need to be fixed before I eventually sell the house.. And I don't trim their nails, which is why I am in the situation I am

If I refinish the floors then their nails will be nonexistent

Cherry should darken in direct sun due to the tannins in the wood.

Have WonderPanzer pull their nails. She mutilates small animals for a living.

Its unfinished....they are putting 2-3 coats of the urathane. He said they'll use water-based urathane because its more durable and doesn't tint the wood from its natural state.

Here is a better break down.....

I had the Birch in front of the house pruned and the 2 crab apple trees removed that you can see in this pic...

The Living room and dining room carpet was ripped out and we put in 3.5" Brazilian Cherry...
Before...

After...

Upstairs Hall Bathroom was painted Chocolate...

2.25" oak was put in the master bedroom and it was repainted Gentle Rain....

The family room had the travertine tile wall already, so we painted it Egyptian Pyramid and we are covering the maple engineered wood (fading badly in spots) with carpet. We also set the spot for the Samsung on an articulating mount....

The foyer and kitchen floor was torn up and replaced by 18x18 porcelain tile laid on 45s...

The master bathroom was torn down to the studs and the shower was made about 1 foot wider and we added a rain shower head, a regular shower head and a hand held. The glass will all be frameless....

I've always seen them level, to allow you to place items there. I guess you could put a slight slant to them, by building up the mud a little.

Yeah I would think a slight slant just so water wouldn't pool in there.

I'm not doing the work....it would take me years!

My Dad's good friend is a custom home builder that was a little slow, so he said he'd do the work. I'm more then happy with his progress....and prices!!!

Must stop looking at your kitchen pics. It is so tempting me to go rip my kitchen out and start on a new one. I need to wait for some time before I do that.

Yes but the $$$ is extremely well spent. You picked the biggest bang for the buck rooms to mod.
