Weekend Project: Floating Deck - PICS

Hey all,

My dad and I built a deck under our main deck by the pool area this weekend, so figured I'd upload a few pics. It's not 100% done yet... but very close. I need to build a step from the concrete patio up, and trim the end boards on that side as well. That plus a little bit of lattice to cover the bottom in some spots and we should be all done. Took about 11 hours of actual labor which doesn't include buying, moving and setting up all of the necessary wood, hardware, and supports.

Enjoy.

Reference pic. Don't mind the hollies, just wanted to show you what the ground under the deck looked like before....

Framed and starting the planks...

Just about done...

Finished 1 (don't mind the extra wood on the back of the deck )...

Finished 2...

Yeah, we were trying to figure out what we were going to do under there, so we went with that. We'll be putting a bar and small BBQ under there as well as some lounge chairs. Figure people who want to relax and not be in the sun can hang under there

hehe.... well, not just for the old people. I burn pretty easily... so my pasty ass may be under there at times as well.... especially if that's where the bar is

That looks very good !

I have some extra Brazilian Walnut that I have wrapped my back porch steps with. I might put this underneath my wrap-around porch. It's only "bend the head over" room on the way to my sprinkler system controls, but it would provide for some extra storage, and also serve to keep my feet dry as I am walking to the controls.

Thanks!! It came out better then I thought... especially since I've never really built anything like this before. Tomorrow I'll add the step and trim the edges and I should be good to go

Yeah, the head-room isn't all that much either. Fortunately my wife and I (and most of our neighbors) are short. Our taller neighbors will have to duck a bit... but they already said they didn't mind b/c they'd be sitting at the bar

Oh, and the "name" of the bar will most likely be "Shorties"

Yeah, I thought about that. If we had more direct access to the yard we may go for it... but I think we're going to turn that into a bar/BBQ area... so that will be the next project...
