Washer and Dryer

any suggestions on where to buy these? I know Lowes, Home Depot, and Sears but are there any other places? I'm looking for decent stuff, nothing crappy and nothing high end.

Also, what do you think is the best place to buy lawn equip? Will be needing that shortly to.

Thanks

For a basic washer/dryer those places are okay. But you should look for a local appliance retailer. They will usually have slightly better stuff for about the same price as the big box stores.

Unless you are just looking for something cheap, I would look elsewhere for lawn equipment. For instance, if you just need a cheap electric leaf blower or hedge trimmer, go to HD and get it. Otherwise, determine what brand of equipment you are looking for, go to the website of the manufacturer and do a dealer look up.

HD/Lowes will generally sell low end lawn equipment. For instance, HD sells John Deere L100 series lawn tractors. Regular JD dealers don't sell that stuff. In the future, when you need service on the L100, HD won't service it. You will need to take it to a Deere dealer, and they will hate you.

I really have no problem with HD, etc. I'm in there a lot. If I need a tool that I'm not going to use very often and they have it for cheap, I buy it. But if I need something I'm going to use often, I will usually try to search out and find a better piece of equipment and spend the extra money on it.

Check out the appliance section of you local yellow pages....

I got my washer/dryer from Sears. I've had decent luck with the kenmore stuff and I'm cheap Wish I would have discovered the local appliance guy before I bought from sears, but hindsight is 20/20.

I should have got the front loader, energy and water efficient stuff, but I ended up going with a middle price ranged washer and lower priced ranged dryer.

On the lawn equiptment, I've bought most of my stuff here and there... I got the lawn tractors used, JD chainsaw and weedwacker (they are rebadged homelite products) from home depot, forget where I got the black and decker electric hedge trimmer from, and most if not all my rakes, shovels, pitch fork, etc from sears. I wait till the "unbreakable" stuff goes on sale and grab 'em cheap. If you break 'em you can bring 'em back and get new ones from sears.

FYI: John Deere dealers do sell the 100 series tractors, and some of the dealers actually do the "setup" for the deeres sold at homedepot. You are better off buying a deere from the dealer instead of homedepot tho'. If you need service, they will usually "bump" you over the homedepot buyers in their service schedule. I'm a big believer in supporting the local dealers, unless their prices are outrageously over what the same product cost at one of the box stores.

We got out washer and dryer from Best Buy. Did a ton of research, we wanted front loaders... ended up going with the high end LG models. Rated well in Consumer Reports (which isn't the bible, but not a bad reference) and people I talked to who owned them had nothing but good things to say... so we got those over Whirpool and the Kenmore. Best Buy also had them on sale at the time, free delivery and 36 months interest free... so it was a good deal.....

Lawn equipment we got from Sears. They were having a demo day, where they would assemble lawn mowers, and you got to try them in the parking lot. Bought mine from there... and since it was technically used (even though I never actually cut grass with it, it was walked around the lot for about 10 minutes), got it for like 35% off.... got a Husqvarna 6.5hp self-propelled that mulches, bags, or side discharges.... and they also support the Husqvarna like they do with the Craftsman, which is good too.

I had major major problems with Sears. They screwed up my order so bad i ended up getting charged for an extra dryer (2 dryers!). I had to go through hell and high water to get it taken off. Took 5 months to get the charge removed after the rude phone reps flat out said no. Then the delivery...your gas shutoff valve has to be within a few feet of the unit or they wont remove the old one to install the new one. i told them i would shut it off myself and they said no, you need to hire a plumber. total nightmare. so they left without taking my old one and left my new one in my fucking garage. the delivery guys dented up my fridge too and they blamed it on me. nightmare man. total nightmare. even the sears reps at the local store admitted they've been fucking up big time lately.

do what you want, i'm just posting my experience with them so you might not have to go through what I did.

Go to Best Buy. I've bought all my major appliances from there with no problems.

Even got a scratched fridge for $400 off...had it now for 7 years.

agreed the LG brand is very highly rated. my parents and neighbor have them and they both love them. mine are on the way out and the LG brand is what im going for. front loaders are teh way to go. saves alot of money in the wash and dry cycles, less damage to cloths
