The Wall from Hell

It's nice having such high ceilings, but a major dilemma as far as art, design, etc. We put some wooden screens up which helps break up the wall, needs some other suggestions to spice up this wall. Any idea?

Wow, cool looking room and great area. I really like the rug but for some reason I'm not sure about the screen. It kind of looks like it shouldnt be sitting on the floor or something. Obviously, you wouldnt hang that up on the wall but it almost looks like giant headboard or something.

Really nice looking house tho and you are right, the wall and large windows make the room but what the hell do you do with that wall

werd..werd.. screen is actually nailed to the wall. It looks much better in person, matches the coffee table to the tee.....It was the wife's idea, I didn't like it at first until it was done. Still need alot to do in the room, pillows, accessories, etc.. you get the idea.

nice, it does match. Ok, it is growing on me the more I stare at it.

To be honest, the screen means nothing to me, I want to see new pics of the car

Id say 3 smaller equally spaced paintings would look good also.

Some sort of large custom art object(s). It a great space and really needs some kind of theme. Nothing overdone but still large and tasteful. Very nice so-far but the screen could go away when you find something else.

^ hahah.. the funny thing is we mention possibly cutting out the wall and putting up a huge window. But not worth it, and view would suck.

Seriously though, some sort of large artwork (contemporary?) would work well.

this may sound dumb, but how about something like an architectural shelf that runs across the wall and as well in-front of the banister. This way you can put some stuff (vases, trainset, etc) on it and help break up the wall. Then you can always go for a painting or something up there.

Then don't do a huge window - how about a half-height rectangular window (perhaps recessed on the inside) that runs the width of the wall up to the banisters? Like this, but up high. This will let in natural light but will be high enough that you can't see out of them unless you're in the upper hallway. That splits the wall into two.

On the lower part you can hang some art like others suggested - If I did this I would look into installing additional lighting to highlight the art and give the wall a little warmer feeling. Three separate pieces of the same size - space the frames equidistantly horizontally.

If that is your formal living room. How about installing a fireplace with a nice mantle?

If it's an outside wall, you could commission someone to do a beautiful piece of stained glass.

And btw, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ !

In-wall aquarium.

Take down the screens and do an entire gallery wall with MANY photographs (B&W?) of equal size or maybe paintings...but not with so many colours that it has too much going on.

Do a long built-in cove sort of half-way up the wall where you can display stuff.

Having big oversized furniture would probably help with the scale of the room too...yours is quite low and small in comparison the to size and height you have in that room.

Why not throw a few dollars at an interior designer to see the different ideas (s)he comes up with?...If this is really important to you.

That would look great -- it draws out the colors of the rug and adds opportunity to bring in more varied thematic elements.

I think the wide angle really distorted the scale of everything, will have to take some pics with a normal lens....

I'd put a large canvas painting as someone already suggested...something more modern - just colors...expensive though
