Top loading washer

I've been using a wash machine forever that was idiot proof...You pretty much put the clothes in, set the type, and hit start. It pretty much did everything for you, and worked like a charm!

I'm using a different older machine now, and you have to actually set the water level.

My question is what let's you know how large the load is?

There's a small, medium, large, and extra large. It my mind it's always extra large since I barely do it, but I'm not entirely sure it is...Is it better to use to much water than too little?

Thanks!

Damn, so many threads.

This actually applies to me though so I'm in for answers too. I always just set it on XL no matter how much I'm washing.

The easiest way to figure it out is to set a the water level an add clothes after it's done filling or while it's filling. Doesn't really matter (don't forget to add the soap). We have a top loader washing machine here and it has small, medium, and large settings. Easy peasy, I just break it down into 3rds and add about the same amount of clothes. Medium is half full. You just put the appropriate amount of clothes with the appropriate amount of water.

Don't add a few sets of clothes and set the size to large or XL, when small or medium is the right amount.

I don't pay for the water bill so it's all good.

pretend those settings are 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and full. use the setting that is a little more than the amount of clothes you're washing

My washer's the same way... small, medium and large.

This is what I roughly do: If it's 1/4 full or less, I use small. If it's between 1/4 and 1/2 full, I use medium. If it's 1/2 or more, I use large.

FYI using too much water won't agitate the clothes enough and then won't clean them! Ick!!!

Peeps not knowing how to use a washer machine.

Sure front loaders are simple one button push type set-up, but the old school top loaders are really not that hard to figure out.

Mine was smart. First time she ever did mine she shrunk a bunch of my stuff on high on the dryer.

She is now prohibited from doing my laundry.

I think I got played.

I've been doing my own since I was like 10. Mom said if I'm not going to fold and put away my laundry then she isn't going to do it. :/

My wife and I do our own as we have fundamentally different laundry logic. But we split the mutual towels and linens up.

Just wait until she asks you to do her laundry because "you're so much better at it."
