Talk to me about these cheap above ground pools(blame teh wife)
My wife thinks she wants one of these things now that we have a child and she can't get to the pool as often as she would like to. :shakehead
Anybody with experience in these things? The reviews are good on amazon but it just seems like to me it wouldn't last very long and it'd be a complete eyesore.

Personally, I would never own an above ground pool of any type. They are an eyesore, they don't last very long, even the "good" ones, and if they ever collapse it is a disaster. Back in high school I worked for a place that sold/ installed these things and I saw several after they collapsed while full of water. It is not a pleasant sight to see that much water going in one direction.

Don't expect it to last for more than a summer. You might get two out of it if you're lucky but usually the pump craps out after the first summer's use. Maybe buy it at Costco and return it in the fall? I've seen that done here at our local Costco. I can't believe they take them back.

When I was growing up we had a nice metal above ground pool. Yeah it didn't look great but, whatever, I got to swim. My friends didn't make fun of me either because they didn't have shit and swimming in an above ground pool > not swimming at all.
One day my dog chewed through the pump hose and flooded my neighbor's backyard.
The best thing about above ground pools is that if you get sick of it you just drain it and toss it. No big expense to fill a hole.
I really don't care for the look of the one like you have pictured. Keep in mind that even with the one you show your township will probably require that you have a fence.

the company i work for builds inground pools, construction, service, sales, etc.
these aboveground deals are cheap for a reason. i would strongly recommend talking your wife out it. there are a lot of iffy things with these setups.
filtration system is crap. does not keep the water clean and sanitary. it is simply not powerful enough. which brings me to my next point, chemicals that you add to it every few days will linger and not circulate properly...not good for you or the liner of the "pool". it's basically just a big bathtub. plus, how much fun can you really have in that tiny thing? it's not appealing whatsoever imo.
you can get an above ground pool if you'd like, just not that one. get one that will stand the test of time. that one won't and if/when it fails, you're left with a lot of problems. neighbors don't take kindly to a flooded backyard. yes, i've seen it happen on more than one occasion. not fun.
why not a little kiddy pool to satisfy your child?

For kids, they really don't care what kind of pool it is they will have fun.
And for the love of god don't buy that POS that you posted, unless you are going to put it in the dumpster in September.
