Stupid moving question......fitting a couch through a standard door....

Ok this might be common sense, but I have a standard door (36 inches across), but at its tightest point its about 33 inches across (the door frame comes in. Most couches I'm coming across are 34x34 height and depth.....should it not be a problem if the couch is tilted on its side?

There's not much room to angle coming in either, as the walls in my apartment are about 9 inches away from the door on both sides......

Like I said, probably a common sense question, but figured I'd get my bases covered before I fall in love with a couch and have to enjoy it in my complex's hallway. So if you have any similar experience it would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty much any couch should be able to fit through a 36" door. The worst that will happen is you'll have to pop out the hinge pins and remove the door.

Measure (at least) twice, buy once. You are wise to think about it in advance. Sounds like nothing oversize for you. Depending on where your apartment is located, removing a window may be a posibility. Don't forget to consider elevator, stairs and hallways too. It's a real PITA to have something delivered that you can't get in the house. Been there, done that. I have had issues with refrigerators, desk, couches and a few other things over the years. Now I have sliding glass patio doors and can get about everything in.

Measure measure and measure. That being said, most couches will fit through a standard-sized doorframe. The legs usually will also detach and free up a couple of inches as well.

And as the ex-fatso said above, sectionals are great if possible.

I agree with everyone else. 36" is a standard door. I can't imagine a furniture manfacturer not building a couch to fit through it.

Yea, i'm pretty sure when they design apartments/condos they take into account the fact that your gonna have to get furniture into them. Though it might seem tight with angles and turns, you should be able to make it work.

just tilt it on a angle.

Imagine the couch has a giant stick going through it from end to end, and spin that about 45 degrees.

Setup a video cam and we will all post our thoughts on which way you should tilt it....After 5 minutes we will then all scratch our heads, sit on our couch, have a drink and try again.....It should work the 2nd time.

you can always remove the pins on the hinges and take the door off so you can use the full 36" doorway
