Strange fridge problem (water)
Strange fridge problem (water)
Starting about three weeks ago I have randomly been finding a small amount of water on the top shelf of my fridge. The pic below makes it look worse than it actually is. The water is contained by the metal lip around the shelf which is probably about 1/16" thick if even that. The temp in the fridge seems fine and the temp in the freezer above it seems fine. Being Mr. Single Guy, the items inside the fridge and freezer hardly change at all in quantity or location.
The water will appear for two or three days and then not appear again for several days. Here's the really wierd part, it only happens during the day and never overnight. There are a few small holes in the top of surface of the fridge that I have no clue as to where they go. Regardless, there is nothing obstructing them and I have never felt any trace of moisture around them when I've found the water on the shelf. And no, I don't keep my house humid like a sauna. Any ideas?

I can think of 2 possible reasons.
1. A leaky door seal can let in relatively moist air that condenses on cold surfaces and then drips onto the shelf or bottom.
2. There is a drain that is supposed to collect condensed moist air from the freezer portion and drain it to the collection tray in the bottom. Sometimes those drains plug and then it overflows, dripping inside the fridge. Usually these drains can be found behind the cover over the temperature controls. In some newer fridges all this stuff is sealed so you can self-service it, but on some you can do it.
Check the seal, just look for cracks, etc. Then check the drain.
