I have had a Kuerig for over a year..... good machine

I just switched to tassimo - I like it better - gets hot quicker, knows what to do (reads bar codes) and makes a variety of drinks - more than Kuerig.

My 2 cents

Well, I purchased the Breville Keurig machine. It should arrive in a few days...I'll post first impressions once I get it working and set up!

A big thank-you for everyone who posted in here for helping!

Just to let some of you people know who might be considering buying one of these machines, I found out from a commercial that Macy's is having a sale today only. They have their coffee machines 40% off. The base prices on the machines are higher than most places (maybe $50), but even after the discount, it's still a pretty good deal.

I found a the B70 Platinum Keurig for $250 (most places it's only $200). With the promotional discount, it goes down to $150, and then an extra $15 off just for signing up my email.

Total after tax and shipping is a little over $160. Still better than any other place I can buy it. Just a heads up.

I have been reading (since TS_eXspeed's post) about some quality control issues with the B70.

See comments on the bottom of the page http://www.singleservecoffee.com/archives/007668.php

Seems to be an issue with getting a "Not Ready" warning.

^^^

That's news to me. Haven't heard about that. I looks like the guy at the very bottom found a solution for the 'Not ready' issue when it's just a glitch, but that of course won't fix the issue if it the actual heating element. Who knows. Maybe the B60 would be the better (more reliable) buy. It's about $30 cheaper after the promotions on Macy's website.

Either way, if the shit hits the fan, it sounds like they have top notch customer service, and very understanding. Seems like most everybody got a replacement that had the issue. I'd rather not have to go through that at all, but at least you know you would most likely be taken care of.

I'm still trying to decide.

I think I will wait until it is at my local Costco, that way if I just don't like it, I can return it.

Did you make sure and add it to the cart?
The coffee makers just showed regular price until you add them to the cart, and then it takes off for the promotional discount.

FWIW, I bought a Keurig Ultimate today. It was 129.99 at Sam's Club with a free filter kit and 90 cups of various coffee.

I've never used the Tassimo, but I really like this one a lot. I chose it because a friend has the same one and I was really impressed. Now I've got my own.

I'm enjoying a hot cup of coffee with Bailey's Irish Creme. Mmmm.

So, after marriage class, I picked up the Breville Keurig machine and set it up...just made a cup of decaf tea. Not bad tasting although, fruity tea is not my thing (only sample that the set that it came with which was decaf)...

It's a bit noisy at startup, but if this is the "quiet tech" version, I can't imagine how loud the normal version is. So, I guess the noise it generates is okay...just was surprised it was that loud.

Overall, the Breville is quite the looker of a machine, it can make any size setting (including travel mugs) and the ability to add in your own ground beans is a real bonus. I'll post more impressions of the actual coffee when I get to it later this week (more like weekend since that's when I drink coffee usually)...

Thanks again for everyone's advice and input...

Dunkin' Donuts Announces Single-Serve K-Cups to be Sold in Participating Restaurants Starting Summer 2011
http://www.dunkindonuts.com/DDBlog/2...uts_annou.html
Beginning this summer, Dunkin’ Donuts will offer 14-count boxes of Dunkin’® K-Cups®, sold exclusively at participating Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in the United States and Canada.
Hopefully they end up online too. If they overcharge for these things in the restaurants I'm going to be pissed.

Starbucks, Green Mountain in single-cup deal
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110310/...green_mountain
Starbucks Corp. and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. have reached a deal that will bring single-cup Starbucks coffee and Tazo tea pods to Keurig users.

Starbucks has been looking to beef up its presence in the fast-growing single-cup coffee market and Green Mountain is considered one of its leaders. Rumors swirled last month that the two were in potential partnership talks.

In other news, my B70 has been kind of a let down. I've had one replaced by them, and even then it's been kind of sketchy. It definitely has some QC issues, and it's turned me to the point that I'm not sure I'd ever buy another Keurig.

Customer service was top notch when I had to call them...but the product has left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.

I agree. My B70 went belly-up after about 10 months and they overnighted me another one at no cost.

Been about 6 months and no issues on the replacement so far.

Bump for anyone else that has one. What model for under $200 is the best buy? My wife wants one so I'm going to surprise her and order one this week.

$15 at a local coffee store. Best way to make an espresso for one:

I used to have a Mukka Express but the valve kept breaking, and at $15/pop, it wasn't worth it.

I have the Keurig Mini Plus. It's great if only one person is going to use it and only do a couple cups a day.

Pluses,
Doesn't take up much counter space.
Doesn't waste energy by having to keep water hot when not in use.
IMO, makes a great cup of coffee, but you need to find K-Cups that you like.

Negatives,
Only holds enough water for one cup/mug of coffee, so you have to load it with water every time you want coffee.
Slow brew time, about 3-4 minutes because it needs to heat the water up.
Some mugs don't fit unless you remove the drip tray.

If you don't like the negative look into the Elite or Special Edition.
http://www.keurig.com/shop/brewers/s...-coffee-makers

All of the machines use the same K-Cups so the coffee should taste the same from all of them.

I've yet to see the promised Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks K-Cups.

I love my Keurig Special Edition Brewing system. http://www.keurig.com/shop/brewers/all-brewers $149.99

No trouble, and more and more local stores are carrying Kcups which means I don't have to order from Keurig. But if you do order, they ship fast and usually have some sort of special.

As far as the K cups, I like Tully's Kona Blend, the French Roast, the Sumatran Reserve, and the Italian Roast.

I've had good luck buying K cups from https://www.coffeeforless.com/

They discount a little and will ship for free if you order over $50.
They occasionally send out a 10% coupon code via email. The last one expired on 8/10. I'll try to remember to post up the next code when I get it.

They are located in Philly so I get my order in a day or two.

The Breville Keurig I bought broke recently.

And what stinks is that Breville does not repair these machines and so, if you have a problem...buy a new one. They offered me one at a discount of $170CDN which was still steep IMO for a machine I took really good care of and broke.

Anyhow, we bought a Nespresso Pixie instead. So far so good...liking the expresso coffee.

I bought my mom a Keurig B60 for her birthday last year and it is still working great almost a year later. It gets used daily as well. Ive only had a couple of k-cups fail on me and I had to clean the machine afterwards but nothing big.

Well, mine lasted about 2 years (see my earlier post circa 2009)...So, here's hoping your Mom's lasts longer.

Me too. I paid good money for it.

Do you know how yours broke? On ours, we always make sure to do hot water cycles every so often and clean it with vinegar every few months.

No idea since Breville won't examine it...and no place really repairs these things in town.

But, I'd press brew button and after the initial buzzing, nothing happens.

At least with Nespresso, there is a 2-year warranty and life-time service. So, if I ever need work done on my own, they would ship out a loaner machine which is kinda neat...

I still have my (second) Platinum machine.

Since I'm working full time now (nights at that), I'm getting regular use of the machine so it's fine. I found before that if it went more than 3 or so days without use, it'd start acting up and wouldn't brew the coffee (no water would come out at all).

I think I have the same machine. Between my roomate and I we brew about 4 cups per day using our own grounds, I've had it since xmas and no problems to report. I've heard there were issues on the early models of these, hopefully mine holds up.

Sounds similar to the issues that my old one (and current one when not used regularly) had. It was suck the water in, start make a bit of the buzzing/humming that it normally would...keep on making the noise but the water would never come out. Couldn't ever get the first one I had to get back to working...they sent me a new one. But the one I'm using right now, if I ever have that issue come up, I give it a nice bang with my hand on the top when it's making that buzzing/humming noise and it starts coming out, and starts functioning normally after one or two cycles. Really.

I don't know if there starts to become an issue with the pump or other components when not used on a daily basis. Didn't think that should be a problem. I don't know how regularly you used yours. I would think conventional wisdom would say to turn the machine off when not using it, but after going through the manual when I had the issue with the first machine, IIRC, it says or recommends that you can/should leave it on, even if not using it. I might go back a re-read it, but I never turn it off because of what I read a while back.

So, you beat yours...

But yeah...I've tried a few things and speaking to Breville sealed the deal when they said it was toast even after I followed their troubleshooting tips.

It's a pity because it's a nice looking machine too and was a house-warming gift from my sister.

Make sure to use filtered water in them -- the water heats very quickly and tends to cause hard water deposits very quickly on/in the pump and will stop it fairly quickly.

We've had the machine pictured above now for over 2 years and only use filtered water in it. Minimum of 4-6 cups per day, every day and never a problem!

I'm using store-bought distilled water now.

I believe we have a B60. Got it for Christmas in 2009. It's acted up a few times, especially after it goes a couple days with no use. We only use filtered water in it, and it's usually only used once a day, maybe twice. I clean it every couple months following the descaling instructions. I recently was about to toss it and get a new one, because for several days it would just sound like it was trying to brew for 5+ minutes, but nothing would come out. Other times, the coffee was nasty (too weak or too strong). It seems to have righted itself for now, but I pretty much wonder every day whether I will have to get in the car and go to DD for my morning coffee. It's kind of annoying. I like the convenience, but don't like the inconsistent brewing issues.

I just bought my first box of DD K-cups this week. Awesome.
