Showers - Curtains or Doors?
On your showers (either stand alone or tub showers) - Do you have curtains or doors? Do you prefer curtains or doors?
I've always had glass doors, either sliding or hinged, until my current house. The stand alone shower didn't have anything up, so I just put up a rod and curtain, for now. The tub shower had an atrocious sliding glass enclosure with "etched" swans that I just removed. I was always planning on replacing with more modern sliding glass enclosures, but it seems most open houses I go to have curtains. Do you prefer one over the other? Is it just because curtains are cheaper?

I feel the need...
Depends on which bathroom. For the master, def go with euro glass door. For the kiddies bathroom, a curtain is more comfortable because glass doors only open up halfway.

I think bathtubs with showerheads look weird with glass enclosures as opposed to curtains. Then again, I'd find a separate shower stall kinda weird with curtains as opposed to glass.
So, I guess I'm pretty plain and typical.

I like the curtain better, when it's get dirty pop it in the wash with a bunch of bleach. When it's really dirty, pop it in the trash. A new one is $10 or so.

like i got a 3 bathroom in my crib.
2 are doors those are fine for guest and if your not getting really dirty or nasty.
the 1 thats a shower curtain i use just when i come in off the farm or shop and nasty. MIGHT I ADD IT'S A JOHN DEERE CURTAIN i've found i like curtains better for when i'm messy and dirty it just cleans easier plus if you get to much crap on it 10-15 bucks you get a new one.

I have and prefer glass doors on both tubs and shower enclosures-- I like being able to see outside the tub/enclosure. Maintenance of glass seems easier than maintaining shower curtains.

Doors you have to clean, it can be a bitch if you have hard water/soap deposits.

I also agree that a simple glass door is nice for a separate walk-in shower, though.

I picked the pee in the shower option to be funny...Then realized, its most likely true....

Always had doors. I just prefer Windexing or squegeeing them over washing a curtain--which involves taking it off and etc. etc.

As Yum says^^, it's a pain to take down and put up the curtains during cleaning.
We use a mildly acidic cleaner to remove hard water mineral deposits; soap scum comes right off with regular cleanser.

Yeah, my biggest gripe about curtains is if you don't have weights or magnets on the bottom of them, they tend to attack you. And since the point of showering is to get clean, having a semi-scummy curtain constantly trying to stick to you is fairly nasty. If I were to go with the curtain, I'd definitely get one of those fancy ones that curves out and gives you more space in the tub.

I have doors on my stand-alones and curtains on the tub/showers. And that's the way it should be.

I Zaino the shower doors and it keeps them sparkling clean.

Seeing as I have both in my house, I can honestly say curtains are WAY easier to deal with... We just buy a new curtain every year.
Cleaning the glass and track is a complete pain in the ass in comparison. It takes at least an hour to throughly clean the doors and you have to do it a few times a year.
I prefer the look of the door; but dealing with the curtain is MUCH easier. I don't care what you have to say; $10 and 10 minutes once a year to change a curtain is way less effort than keeping glass sliding doors clean... (and don't forget the track, which gets soap buildup and grime in it) I spend easily more than 10 minutes and $10 yearly maintaining my glass doors. And we have a water softener so our mineral deposits are next to nothing...
What "mildly acidic" cleaner do you use for your hard water deposits?

curtains... For me, curtains always seemed to get in the way or end up outside the enclosure/tub to drip water on the floor, too. They also seem to direct steam into the bathroom instead of towards the fan vents.
It's probably about 10 minutes/month and $5-10 year on maintenance of the doors and glass in the bathrooms-- with no time spent wiping the floor, pulling curtains off or re-rinsing after that icky curtain touches me at the end of the shower.

Usually the ventilation issue is due to the shower curtains not closing all the way around the tub or shower enclosure, and venting in hotel bathrooms is generally inefficient anyway. The curtains always seem to sway out of the enclosure to drip on the floor as I open them to get out. > possible user error... ... but I prefer glass as a result.

Crabcakes and Football!!!
in a general bathroom a curtain is nice because you can change it and to me, seems easier to clean. I'v love to have a huge walk in shower with a bench and multiple shower heads. Maybe the next house

Yeah, another bonus for the shower curtain is you can do a quick makeover for the $10 it'll cost you to buy a different curtain. It's nice to be able to change up the look from time to time.

I prefer doors in showers and baths. Curtains in a bath just reminds me of cheap motels, and curtains in a shower.... thats just ridiculous.

For all the posts recommending shower curtains, glass has a huge lead in the poll. Maybe I needed more options.
We'll definitely be putting glass in the stand alone shower, but are still undecided on the bath. I'm leaning toward the cuirtain, though - just so we don't exclude potential families with kids as buyers. I'd rather see someone trash a shower curtain in favor of glass than the reverse. And, of course, it's less expensive
