Love the cutting boards and any kitchen updates? Oh, you would think that a GC could coordinator their subs, since that is the main reason you hire them but they can't, ever.
Nothing worthwhile in terms of posting pictures. All the electrical, plumbing, HVAC, lighting, etc is done. Now waiting for drywall to come in and patch up all the holes that were made in the process. Cabinets get delivered later next week and installed the week after that so that'll be the next big thing.
Being that I do program management for a living, it blows my mind that a contractor can't coordinate essentially 4 different functions to do what amounts to a simple job.
I don't know what you do for a living, but you should seriously consider doing this on the side for some extra income if you enjoy doing it/have the time to commit to it. I know for a fact I would buy one off you.

lol, thanks man. I'm an engineer for a living but do this for a hobby. It's a soothing experience for me now that I have the tools and methods down. Took me like 2 weeks to make the first one and ~8hrs to make this last one.
I'd be happy to make you one for the cost of wood plus a bottle of something nice. I'll shoot you a PM.

If you're serious, I'd be happy to make as many as people want. Anyone else want in while I'm at it? Takes less time to batch process these than doing them one at a time.
Cost would depend on size, thickness, wood type, and complexity. All of that can be custom to whatever you want and this is for end grain boards, if you want edge grain then it's a lot less money. For example, the walnut brick pattern one above has ~$70-$80 worth of wood alone plus 8hrs of work into it but it's pretty big and and thick. If I did this for a living, I could sell that board for $300+...but since I don't, IDGAF and would charge much less as a result. If I had to take a swag at cost, I'd say $150 or less all in provided there's nothing exotic about it.
For wood types, the general use ones for cost are maple, cherry, and walnut (in order of least to most expensive) and then using more exotic woods like paduk (red), purple heart (purple), and bubinga (brownish?) as accents if desired. Oak and such shouldn't be used for cutting boards because the grain is not tight enough for something that'll last a while.
This board is beautiful. What do you use for finish? It has to be food grade safe no?
I use food grade mineral oil to finish it. Apply several coats and allow the oil to soak into the wood as far as possible. This prevents moisture from getting in there and kills any bacteria that goes down there too because of lack of moisture. Downside is that you do have to oil the board every month or two but that's the case with all boards.
That's a very fair price! I'll need to figure out what design I'd like. I'm not living the brick wall looking design but I do love a checkerboard end grain design though.
Just good ol Mobil 1 Extended Performance after he puts 10K miles on it from his s2k oil change
Mobil 1 full synthetic 10w30 for the four cylinders of fury!

Sounds good man, PM when ready. One of the orders I got is for a "faint checkerboard" which is maple and cherry so the contrast is not as stark as maple and walnut.
Alright, got a big non-woodworking update to make...
Cabinets (the right ones finally) are installed! Measure for counters was done today, flooring goes in on Wednesday, finish electrical later this week or early next, counters in on the 9th, and final plumbing right after that. Looks like we're about 2 weeks out from being done with this mess.
Regularly scheduled woodworking updates will probably resume in the next couple days as I have a few projects lined up later this week and weekend.
Newest board for a forum member going together, you know who you are if you want to go public.
This is the mockup before final glue which is currently drying. Then sand and finish before shipping out. Also finished up one other board (also need to sand and finish) over the weekend but I'm not sure why I didn't take a picture of it...
Desk mostly completed. Was originally going to do the plywood top (shown but not installed) but after thinking about it more I'm going to go for a solid top to be built this week or weekend.
Desk is done! Sorry for the crap picture, it was dark in the room when I took it this morning. It's bigger than I thought it would be but will be nice to have all the extra space.
I got my board over the weekend. I'll post pictures of it when I get home today. Guys seriously, this thing just feels amazing when you touch it. The quality is top notch.
My only compliant is that it looks so nice that I don't even want to use it and scratch it up haha. I'm more than likely going to be buying more as long as Sam is willing to make them.

I'm happy to make as many as people want while the weather is still nice. After that, it'll have to wait until next spring.
