Believe it or not...re-building is fun Adam...it's the tearing-out that is a PITA.

I love to drywall & build shit...I must be crazy.

Heh, well, honestly... I'm having a blast with all of it. Unfortunately, I won't be doing the drywall. I'm paying a contractor.

There are some unique issues to the house that would make it difficult for me to slap things together. If room was just square box of studs, I could manage.

There's alot of firring that needs to be done, and that window you see on the left there... is getting torn out and replaced with a new window... the one on the right is being removed completely. Since old house, the studs are non standard, so new studs need to be ripped to match old.

Lot of little detail work that I dont have the skills to handle. Going to pitch in where I can though. Plumbing bout done, electrical about done, Home Depot is delivering 30+ pieces of sheetrock and a few dozen pieces of lumber Friday, rebuild starts saturday.

Good Luck Adam. Just watch those guys as much as you can...it's probably one of the best ways to learn without doing it yourself.

And plaster/furring strips are a huge PITA. You'll be glad you got regular drywall.

>>>One important thing I will tell you...if you can, have the contractors put in horizontal 2"x6 or 8" stock between the studs where the cabinets are to be mounted. This is a humongous benefit when you actually go to hang them. Plus, you can rest easy knowing they will be tight against the wall for years to come. My current house got that treatment via me cracking open the wall before I hung my 42" wall cabinets...easier while it's open, obviously.

We redid our kitchen in our old house to sell it and also installed hardwood floors. Basically, new cabinet facing, new paint, new floor (replaced linoleum with real tiles). Added a seating area/library.

You are a one man band like me soopa. I get home from work and I face a fucking hellhole. Some days I just look at what I started and let out a big sigh, then I think how upset I would be if I gave up and did not do my place the way I want it.

I have found that owning good mud knives and a quality trowel are more than half the battle. I have a 6, 8 and 12 inch knife...use a few plastic ones to fill my trowel.

Ern, learn how to use a sponge on the seams...will save you a ton of time & patience.

That's after pressure washing moss from the patio

The electrical is being done by my cousin, a licensed electrician, he's been showing me the way. That pic is an early stage of the electrical.

Basically removed ALL the electrical from the kitchen/dining area... installing all new.

Can you put up an before/after of the patio? From what I see behind you it looks great. Did you use any chemicals or soap?

I just used high pressure, but its already starting to grow back... so gonna have to lay some chemicals.

Only problem is... my entire house sits on clay... which doesnt drain soo well. So I'm afraid if I put chemicals down theyre never going to wash away... and might get my dog sick.

Thats the best "after" photo I have currently... here is before...

Yeah, that's brick under there somewhere
