Refrigerator Problem - help!

Ok for the past few days our refrigerator has been doing weird things. I wake up one morning and open the freezer to get ice and all that is in the icebox is a puddle of water and I noticed the temperature was much warmer than it should be, then I opened the fridge and also felt warmer. We have a thing that says what we set the freezer and fridge at and what the current temp is. The freezer is set at -6 and fridge at like 30 or something. The current freezer temp was 40 and fridge was 55. Initially we were like shit.. someone must have left the doors open overnight. So we make sure they are closed all day and that evening the freezer is at 9 and producing ice again and the fridge at like 35. Cool, so it is working fine again.

Wrong, the next morning AGAIN it was at 40/55 and we were like fk no we couldn't have left the door open again!? So we make sure it is closed again and that evening it is back to about 10/35. That night we fucking taped the freezer door shut and made sure nobody got in it and it couldn't open overnight but the next morning it is back at 40/55 again!

Any idea WTF the problem could be? (I already called paypal, they couldn't help)

I bet it's overheating. Get all the dust off of the cooling fins.
If it's not that than maybe the timer that handles the auto-defrost is broken or your thermostat is screwed up.

Figured out the problem: the motherboard in the fridge was fucked up. A GE guy was called and immediately knew what the problem was and fixed it. They still use..motherboards.. in their fridges. Apparently it is a known issue with GE fridges.

The guy came asap, and also gave us a discount and a free water filter.

Luckily we didn't have to change the flux capacitor.

Sorry I did not see this thread sooner - yep, I had the EXACT problem last year with my GE. I ordered a new motherboard and it has been great ever since. Let's hope this one lasts a little longer than the previous one!

I know my parent's had the same problem with their fridge, and pretty sure it is a GE too.
