Question Question on Doing a Drainage Ditch

I have lots of brick left over from my house. Trying to find a good or suitable use for them. I have a slope in the back of my house, about 20 foot that gently grades down to a wooded area. I have dug a sloping ditch, but the water run-off is starting to create an ugly trowl. I filled in the uneven spots with dirt and proceeded to lay the brick in the depression that goes down towards the woods. I know the potential for run-off will continue underneath the brick, possibly making it uneven again in the near future. I guess I'm just trying to get a good handle on what my alternatives are to make this look nice, yet be stable, without further trowling by the water run-off.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Each brick are bricks with 3 holes.

if you really want to use the brick, you need to lay down a nice layer of pea gravel underneath the brick to allow the water to run off without creating the ditch you mentioned. Dirt unfortunately is too loose and is constantly eroding from the flow of the water. It's really not a good base. Pea gravel on the other hand will compact nicely and will allow the water to run over it with some of the water running through it.

Personally I would ditch the bricks and just lay down the gravel. It looks very natural.

Here's what it looks like. It's available in multiple colors.

I'm going the route NSXNEXT posted to create a small overflow drainage area for the pool. Looks nice, fairly easy to do... and functional...

Bad news. It came one hellacious rain couple days ago...and it washed ALL my River Pebbles down the hill ! I think I need the larger river stones. I think I'm going to consider building this whole area up with Chirt, then cover with T-Soil to make the grade near level then put in a Drain underneath the Dirt.....

Check this out. If that doesn't work for you, Google French Drain. I'm pretty sure that's what you're looking for.

Yeah, if that happened you are definitely going to need a French Drain. We're getting one done ourselves for the side of the house in addition to the drain for the pool mentioned above.

I am seeing the same erosion in the swail in my backyard.

I am getting 1.25" crushed limestone to provide the base. the pea gravel is too small and will wash away, you just need bigger stones (wow, that didn't come out right).
