Please help quick.. Tile Size recomendation

Well I came across a great deal on some Travertine Tile the tile sizes availible are 12, 16, 18. I am really trying to decide more between 12 and 16 for my bathroom I think the 18 will be to big. It will used in a bathroom about 12' X 16' It will be used for both the floors and the walls in the shower and Tub Surrond... Please let me know what your opinions are

I would go with the 12" tile. I think the bigger tile would make the room seem smaller

Another vote for 12's in the bathroom.

18's would look good if you have a high-ceiling great room.

16, and if you want to mix it up use 12" on verticals and 16 on the floor

Interesting thread. I'm thinking we may do the same thing next year. I was thinking 12s since our bathrooms ain't huge. Anyone have pics of them?

I ended up going with 12's after finally getting ahold of a few tile guys I know I kept getting the same response that the larger tile will make the room look smaller... Hopefully I wont regret the decision

At least put them in 45-deg from the wall rather than straight (especially if you're not planning on putting in a border).

Do this with the pattern (not my bathroom - got from the web):

Not this (still not my bathroom - got from the web):

It looks so much better angled than straight. Your bathroom sounds like it's a good size, so a tile border may also be a great idea.

Oh, and good choice on travertine.. I love the look of travertine

laying tile on the diagonal is an old trick. The eye follows the diagonal line, and the pattern makes the space feel larger.

I thought its pretty much universally accepted that larger tiles make a room look larger.

For the record, I'm not really into this stuff but I live with an interior designer and my buddy has been remodeling his house, so I overhear a lot...

Can tile make a small room look larger?
Yes, larger tiles give a cleaner look and can actually make a small area look larger.

Larger tiles make the room feel more open and expansive. Large tiles on the floor and large tiles on the wall do just that. Besides, large tiles mean less grout to have to maintain. And who wouldn't welcome less grout on their floor?
http://www.utahparadeofhomes.com/slc_2000/articles3.htm

A large tile will produce less grids opening up the area and at the same time provide less maintenance when it comes to the grout issue.

As for the diagonal way of laying.. I agree and plan on doing it that way

here is a pic that shows the shade that I went with
