Wow... two vacuums? One for each floor? Never heard of such a thing. Although after lugging our DC25 up and down 3 to all 3 floors I can see how it would come in handy!

I don't have a problem carrying it up and down, but it is a bit cumbersome for my girlfriend. Especially since she is pretty short, makes it tougher for her to carry it up and down. The second one only cost $150, which is not bad at all.

Don't have two Dyson's but, had three vacuums. Keep Dyson upstairs, Oreck in basement. Dyson's was the only thing to pick up dog hair. Now that Dyson is gone, trying to use Oreck to clean the two upper levels is PITA, Oreck will not pick up dog hair, pulled out canister Electrolux, it kicked the dog hair's ass.

Will look at QVC this Saturday morning at midnight, they are suppose to have a Dyson on sale, not sure with one though.

Two cats and a dog here. 3 floors (well, 2.5 actually) to vacuum and I probably empty the canister on our Dyson 4-5 times when we use it every weekend. Previous el-cheapo Bissell vacuum can't even compare. Pretty impressed with our Dyson. It was a wedding present

So I just vacuumed my room very briefly with our new DC24. My mom didn't want to unpack it until we got carpet cleaners to go over every carpeted surface in the house, and that was taken care of, so here we are. We vacuumed before the carpet cleaners came and then they did their thing. That was a few weeks ago.

I love how light this thing is. The ball makes it quite maneuverable; the vacuum's low weight helps too. I think even a kid could lift it easily with one hand. Kind of silly though since we don't have any stairs.

A small complaint is how flimsy the construction feels. Don't get me wrong, it looks and feels like a vacuum that's very well put together, but when you lift it from the handle in front, you can feel a little bit of give. The canister visibly shifts upwards as you lift it off the ground - but it still feels solid. Another thing is the handle. It locks in place while fully extended, but doesn't click-lock when fully retracted. There's also an insignificant amount of play when you jiggle the handle in different directions, but it's there nonetheless. All minor complaints... the way I'm describing it sounds like this vacuum is cheap but it feels solid. You'd also expect a $400+ vacuum to have an auto-retracting cord, but I guess you will have drawbacks with compact-size and light weight. The price is not a minor complaint though.

One thing is for sure - it just plain sucks. I like the clear view canister - it seems like no matter how much I go over a patch of carpet, it still seems to pick up more and more. Sort of gross, too.

Unfortunately our old shitty $50 who-gives-a-crap brand vacuum is hanging on for dear life like a dingleberry as it is, so it can't be used as a fair comparison. I wanted the shitty old vacuum then the shiny new one.... oh well.

After doing research on the DC41 and everything else on the market I decided to go with the Kenmore Intuition, picked it up from sears for $180 a couple of days ago.

http://www.kenmore.com/shc/s/p_10154...3&blockType=L3

Honestly, I have yet to see another vacuum with greater suction power than this thing. I am not sure if DC41 can be much better, at least not $400+ better as the DC41s are going for around $600 plus shipping.

The kenmore is quiet, your can barely hear it if its being used in the next room, same can not be said about my old Dirt Devil. Love the LED lights as well as the dirt devil had a incandescent bulb which didnt last that long.

Do you have dogs or cats? The thing about Dysons, the suction power is through out it's use, even when the container is full. So how does the Kenmore compare with that in mine?

^^ Actually the kenmore does have a dyson inspired design within the vacum, the inner parts do have the turbine/tunnel like structure within. Not sure how it would rack up against the DC41 but the said Kenmore model was top rated by Consumer Reports recent test. I love the direct belt drive as it eliminates any belt being involved. I have yet to notice any loss in suction even when the canister was full of dirt etc.

Canisters have exceptional suction. Dirt shoots directly to the bag w/o obstructions due to the hose design. Standard vacuums, including dysons have multiple 45 degree turns, lessening the suction. This is why a canister with new bag and filter will outperform a dyson. Of course the trade off, you have to buy new bags or filters and maintain it.

I have Dyson (animal) for already 4 years. It finally broke on me But I'll fix it, I get a vibration when the brushes are on. But it is an exceptional vacuum, easy, convenient and with all the attachments, simply superb and is worth every penny.

I, however, will look for a canister vacuum, as I use more attachment and I need something more flexible than the pullout rod Dyson upright has. I just wish they weren't so freaken expensive.

P.S. Just a little fact, as I have friends who own vacuum repair shops, a vacuum with a paper bag will always produce better suction and more power than a container vacuum. But since I'm lazy, I'll take less suction for convenience.

I have an Electrolux, paid about $250, works well. It's what is being, now, since the Dyson died (Had it was over six years). It does do a better job, they have bigger motors and as said a straight shot from floor to bag. But if you have animal(s), you're going to use a lot of bags. Which really don't cost a lot, just a PITA when the vacuum shuts down and you have to go get a bag.

Sure!

1)Miele S4212 Neptune Canister
2)Electrolux Oxygen HEPA Canister Vacuum EL6988
3. Dyson Canister Vacs

I'm not a fan of kenmore's anymore...Mainly due to LG winning the new 10 year bid for Kenmore 2 years ago. I noticed quality control wasn't as great as the previous "Progressive" line manufactured by Panasonic (which was a awesome line). I do recommend European models as they are better constructed and use quality parts, most importantly a Metal/Steel Motor fan. Metal/Steel fans hold up better over the years of deflecting randoms that pass through the filter, staples, paperclips and etc. vs the standard plastic fans.

late to the party but I have a Dirt Devil Breeze, costs about $75 at Target. I throw it to the wolves every week and it handles everything I throw at it. I have two cats and two house rabbits, so theres plenty of fur, plus the occasional rabbit shit that gets kicked out of the pen. It also has no problems with picking up hay. With an 8 yo feeding the rabbits, there is often a pretty significant hay trail from the bin to the cage. Worst that ever happened was the tube that goes up and into the canister clogged when I was lazy and didnt pick up most of the hay when there was a shit ton on the floor. I've abused this one for almost 3 years, had to replace a few belts due to stupidity, but thats all.

Thought I'd post this here.

Order a Oreck from QVC last week. One called "The Aviator". We didn't clean the floors knowing it was coming.

First thing, it is light, very light. It also picked up everything on the floor with only a pass or two. It's strong, will pull away from you. Worked well on wall to wall and area rugs. Again, very light, worked well on the steps.

It picked up the dog's hair with no problem. And it groomed the wall to wall nicely. Even though it's 11 yrs old.

It put the four year old Oreck that we have to shame.

Paid $200.00 plus tax and no shipping. Get to pay in four monthly installments. Plus a free tune-up.

Picked up a DC41 Animal over the holidays. All i can say is it is far superior to my DC07. The DC07 still works flawlessly and picks up more hair/dander/dust than one can imagine. I vacuumed the house with the 07 first, then with the new 41 and still filled the container. Suction is amazing with the 41, the multi floor beater bar head is far superior to the 07. I also picked up the pet brush attachment as i have a Malamute and a cat and it works great and both like the combing it produces.

I thought the Dyson Animal was great when I replaced the Hoover five years ago. I replaced the Dyson with a Miele S7 Cat and Dog today and it picks up so much more than the Dyson it blows my mind. Miele picked up lots of fine cat hair that the Dyson left behind.

Got it for a price I could not refuse, $499 including (2) extra boxes of bags.

I got a Dyson DC35 cordless vac for a gift for x-mas. I absolutely LOVE that thing. It is so convenient and works very good. It is so easy to get under the table and around things with it and works great on carpet and stairs as well. . I recommend one, especially anyone who is messy or has kids.
