Opinions On Dyson Vacs...

.....Right now I'm looking to replace an old Kenmore canister. I'm looking at the Dyson DC 23 Turbinehead. I can pick it up for about $350.

Anyone have any experiences or thoughts about Dyson's?

TIA

We love ours (DC 07 Animal). We even still love it even though it needed a new clutch after 6 years of sucking up collie hair twice a week.

As in the other Dyson thread, many of us Highly recommend them. I love my Animal (DC07) I have had it for at least 7 years if i had to guess. Most of my friends have gone out and purchased one. I replaced my Oreck, a friend replaced his Kirby.

my friend works at a vacuum repair shop. he says dysons are expensive to repair and alot of problems.

i personally have the dyson ball model DC24AF and have yet to have any problems. strong suction and very lightweight. I even use it to vacuum the interior of my TL by pulling out the wand . I think only the upright models have the HEPA filter and the other ones only a normal filter.

right now employess of bestbuy and futureshop here in Canada can get this for around $290CAD

Our new clutch was $65 installed ($40 part, $25 labor). Not too bad.

They are good, but they are heavy. I don't use out that much any longer. It stays on the second floor and I only vacuum the the bottom level of our house. Though I used it last weekend, heavy compared to the Oreck I use.

My dyson has fallen down our stairs more times than i care to count. Never broke. The only thing i have ever replaced was the attachment hose (twice) in over 7 years of weekly stretching isnt bad. Never any issues. I love it.

Well our DC14 has somewhat bit the dust, the beater motor has failed. Called the local repair shop, will cost at least $250 to replace. We bought it seven years ago next month.

We have a kenmore that we really like. It seemed like it had better build quality than the dyson.

My parents have had an electrolux canister vaccum for over 15 years now and they've loved it. It works very well and it still has a LOT of suction and power! I borrow it from them when I have to clean up my cars and such, it's got more power than my darn shop vac! Over the last 15 years they have spent 300 dollars on it.

4- 50 dollar cleanings and servicing to make sure it's working well
Last month they bought a new hose for about 75 dollars since their old one had a slight rip that was causing a loud whistle noise!

Have you contacted Dyson, or gone to their site? You can get most every part for them from them at a reasonable price.

We have a Bissell and have loved it so much that we also got a Bissell wet vac. We've had our bagless upright for almost 6 years and it's still as good as new. I've never owned a Dyson, so I can't really comment on them or compare, but we love our Bissell and only paid around $140 for it.

In my house we recently got a Dyson DC24 and it is pretty amazing as far as upright vacuums go. However, we have used canister vacs pretty much since I was born. So getting used to the Dyson upright was a bit of a challenge.

Few things annoyed me like the lack of a retractable power cord, and how it cant really go underneath kitchen cabinets easily unless you come in at an angle. It's just not as easy to maneuver around the kitchen especially, around breakfast chairs, tables, my mom lol. This is also our first bagless vacuum and I am not a fan. It fills up kind of quickly and when you release the dirt into a garbage can, the dust just flies up at you. I'm not used to this since before, a bag contain all dirt and dust and it was a very clean disposal process.

But those issues are due to the upright fact, not anything thats wrong with the vacuum. The suction is amazing and quality is excellent. We wanted to try an upright this time around but maybe we shouldn't have. Our house is about 3250 sq ft + another 1500 or so unfinished sq ft in the basement, so in our case we should have a canister vacuum.

All in all, you can't go wrong with a Dyson vac.

Our Dyson Animal (DC07) is a very good vac, but it weighs a ton so it's a pain on stairs. It doesn't edge very well either. I honestly think Dysons are overpriced for what they are. The law of diminishing returns applies when buying any vaccum cleaner over 150 bucks IMHO.

I don't know the model # but I have a Dyson Animal that I love. I also purchased the DC35 Multi floor (handheld).

I love it! I usually just go around the baseboards to get the loose dog hair every other day, and then once a week we'll actually vacuum with the bigger unit. It's also great for use in my car

^ Honestly, if you're just using it for one or two rugs and the car floor every once in a while, I wouldn't spend a fortune on a Dyson. Other's will prob disagree because they love their Dysons but it probably gets a lot more use and IMO, likely justifies the big price tag for those vacuums.

FWIW, I'm not anti-Dyson....our decision was between a Dyson and a Central Vac (house already roughed-in) but we vacuum DAILY to pick up the outrageous amount of dog hair my 100 lb dog leaves us as gifts each day. BTW, we chose a great central vac unit, which in the end I think, was actually more cost effective and way more powerful than a Dyson.

Were you asking me? If so, I like the handheld. It's easy to use, and has great suction for such a small unit. The attachment to get the floors is great.

The only complaint was the battery life, but I've found that the unit charges pretty well. I think at full power it lasts 15 minutes or so. I have used it a lot and although I charge in between I haven't had any battery issues yet.

i was asking whoever owned or had an opinion on the handheld...

it is just really hard to justify the cost when i only really vacuum like once every other week and it is just a small space... i guess i could vacuum up the hardwood instead of sweeping the dust around...

I have 2 dogs so I can vacuum everyday, which makes having the handheld a lot easier.

We picked up a handheld at Costco about a month ago. My wife loves it for stairs and hitting the hardwood floors quickly.

Im going to be picking up one of the dyson handhelds soon. I will be using it daily on the hard wood floor in the kitchen. Having a Malamute and a cat they make a mess quickly.

I'd love to get the handheld in addition to our vac...and I almost have several times...but the battery life on them kills me.

The battery life is plenty for us -- two staircases, hardwood floors for about half of our first floor, plus 4 bathrooms.

My sister just picked up an Animal - DC25 ball for my mom. Will post up here once I get her opinion.

I remember when a Dyson rep dropped by my old job to show me the durability and ease of use of a Dyson. The rep being one of the most attractive MILFs I'd ever seen may have had something to do with it, but I was really impressed. She took the plastic-looking dustcan, put it on it's side and she stood on it. It flexed a little but didn't crack or anything. She was probably 120 lbs at MOST, but still.

We have had an animal dc 14 for 7+ years now... Zero problems and works like a champ. I actually just got back 30 mins ago from bed, bath and beyond with the dc25 animal ball version. Bbb has them on sale at 519 and you can use the 20 percent off coupon.

We also have the handheld and love it. Highly recommend their products.

Thanks, we just threw away battery powered hand vac, used for small stuff, was about five years old. Was just looking at new Dysons, the Oreck we have just isn't cutting it with the dog hair.

The Dysons are great for dog hair. I have a golden retriever and the dog hair gets everywhere. I just bought a second Dyson that was for sale on Woot.com last week. Both of the ones I bought are factory refurbished. We will keep one upstairs and one downstairs. I paid about $320 for both vacuums.
