Good plan. If it were Hardie or similar it'd be unnecessary.
It amazes me the proper steps that builders skip. Lol
As for earlier, now that I look, you're right about the wood. It'd be a major PITA to redo the entire house.

Yeah, it can be mind boggling at times. A colleague of mine bought a new house (forget the builder) back in 2004. Apparently the builder was not paying the plumbing subcontractor in a timely manner, so the plumbing subcontractor dumped nails and other junk down the waste lines. It wasn't noticable until the first major holiday, which was Thanksgiving for him I believe. He said that it happened to enough of the houses in his tract that they filed a class action lawsuit against the builder. He's also mentioned other things about the house that are wrong that I don't understand (like needing a new front door and work on his counter tops because grout is lifting all over the place). His house isn't _that_ old, and I know the guy and he takes care of his stuff.
Some day we will address the "golden oak everywhere" look. It's not our favorite, but works for now.

Thanks guys! We really like it.
Thanks!
Well, the real work was modifying the cabinet. That I could NOT have done without my dad's help. Once the cabinet was done, the actual oven install was really easy. Connect the wiring per the instructions...in my case the circuit for the oven is 3 wire (neutral ground)..slide it in, put in the trim screws to keep it from sliding out (I believe there were 4), and done.

As to what's next...giving our bank account a rest. . It's going to be small projects here and there until our finances have recovered. Some small projects I have are:
- Motion sensor light switches in both walk-in closets and our half bath. I put one in our laundry room which is nice, as when you enter from the garage with your hands full you don't need to worry about turning on the light. The room is just big enough that the garage door closes before you exit the room, so having the light automatically helps a lot.
- Wire rear speakers in the living room. I have the wire already, it's just a matter of me figuring out where to mount the speakers. The walls the TV faces are not flat, and the ceiling is pretty vaulted. I need to research some sort of articulating mount for my rears (Bose 161's).
- Organize the garage. I may employ my dad, again, to help me create an attic access in the garage with one of them pull-down ladders. There's a shit ton of space above the garage that we could take advantage of. I also need to figure out how to organize my yard tools and other things...more shelving/hooks/whatnot is a must.
- Organize/decorate my home office. I'm partially there, just need to figure out what I want to do with the space.
All of the work we've done to date was primarily funded by the proceeds of our old house, which are now officially gone. We will see what sort of income tax return we get next year and what we want to do with that. My wife really wants to buy a new (stainless steel) fridge, and I'm not opposed to that...I'd actually love a built-in fridge, but those are pricey. I would move our existing fridge into the garage and with the added space we can take better advantage of food sales and prep more meals ahead of time.

Love it

Thanks! My wife would love to add knobs and pulls to the cabinets, but I don't trust my ability to drill holes in the same place on every door/drawer. I suppose I could make a template. I'll wait for her to ask.
We do too
Now we just need to figure out what we're going to do with the floor in front of the oven. We are not having any luck finding matching replacement tile. My dad found a tile that is spot on with color, and close enough with pattern, but it's thicker than the existing tile. I need to check out the Habitat For Humanities ReStore and see if, by chance, there's something in their stock that will work. Eventually we want to replace the floor and will likely do the Luxury Vinyl Tile like 97BlackAckCL did. So I don't want to put a ton of money into it...but we need to do _something_ in the mean time.

Back splash looks great

Installed one of these for the fan in our dining room:
I didn't want a free standing remote and didn't really want to run another wire to the fan. This does the job beautifully. Also, the sending unit does not need batteries, it uses the power from the fan circuit. Most of the in-wall wireless controls I found take a battery and I don't need yet another thing to buy batteries for

Good luck man, been there done that. The template makes it infinitely easier and cheaper though. I tried using a ruler for the first 2 doors I did and said fvck it, I'm buying a template.
Forgot to post the LED retrofits I bought:
4-Pack of Hyperikon® T8 LED Light Tube, 4ft, 18W (36W equivalent), 4000K (Daylight Glow®), Single-Ended Power, Clear 1 Line, UL-Listed & DLC-Qualified - - Amazon.com

I was so happy with them that I bought 4 more to complete the kitchen. I had forgot about the $100 rebate Visa card we received from GE.
At the time I bought the 4-pack, it was cheaper. Now it looks like buying them individually is ever so slightly cheaper, unless you need the replacement tombstones. I did not need to use them. Simply bypassed the ballast with the existing tombstones. Was very very easy.

What state is home now because it must be far away if an employer paid your relocation fee costs.

Oh alright. I'll get a New New Home thread going soon, haha.
Oh yes. I basically swapped coasts. Moved from the left coast to the right coast (Northern California to Northern Virginia [DC metro]). My wife had wanted to move out of California for a long time, well before my last *two* employers haha (she has always wanted 4 seasons), Of course, that's all just talk...so when the opportunity came up and it became a potential reality it was scary as all heck, but we jumped and it's been almost a year and no regrets. The kids have handled the move *very* well, too. We have our 4 seasons now and it's awesome.
The move was *not* cheap. They covered packers, car transport, ~2 weeks in a hotel while we waited to get into our new house and for our stuff to arrive, and the one-way flight for all four of us. The crew that did the packing was great and we only had a couple of minor non-important things break...not even worth the time to submit a claim. The auto transport company did great too and the best thing was their office was near SFO so we were not without our cars at any point before our one way flight to VA. All in all we did it and it was successful.
I did buy a few Tracki GPS trackers, one for each car, and one to throw in the back of the moving truck. They worked out great and I could show the kids where our stuff was.
I would have loved to have made it a road trip, but we weren't too keen on road tripping coast to coast with our two cats, so flying was the better option (which they handled great).
