New Grill Time

*Figured more people would see this here but feel free to move to Cooking & Dining*

Pretty much I'm looking for a new gas grill, under $200. Would like to get something more expensive but for right now under $200 will suit me fine.

Saw this one in Lowe's over the weekend GRILL

Anyone have any suggestions as far as brand/model and most importantly, best place to buy from?

Thanks guys!

My suggestion is to stick with either Vermont Castings or Weber. It's something you'll want to have around for a while.

I personally prefer stainless steel grates vs cast iron.

I have a Weber, have had it ~2 years and it still looks brand new.

And get a good grill cover for it.

I don't think the Webers will fit in your budget, either. Most grills in that range will be fairly basic 2 or maybe 3 burner grills, maybe with a side burner. The lower end grills usually last upto 5 years and then are disposable.

Whatever grill you get, about getting a cover for it.

how about the costco ones? I don't know the brand but nothing can go wrong with the costco.

For $200 just get whatever looks good to you.
Char-Broil makes decent stuff in that price range. I had one, by the 4th/5th year the burners were shot. They are replaceable. You will probably find that grills in this price range have problems keeping an even flame and have hot spots.

VC grills start around $400.

You could maybe hit up craiglist and see if someone is selling a used Weber...then maybe throw a couple bucks in parts and you would be set for years to come. I am a big advocate (thanks to my Dad) to buy something once. So if the $200 grills are cheap or get bad reviews and are not going to last for a long time, then I personally would either open the purse strings a little or wait until I got some tax refund or birthday money and get the better grill. I buy a lot of my stuff that way - tell all the relatives to save that Christmas sweater they were tempted to get me and instead pool all the money and I can put it towards something bigger. VC and Weber are really a good deal for 400-500, you can get a real nice grill. I just got the Weber Genesis Platinum B NG, Stainless Steel - sweet grill, although I have yet to cook on it - just got the gas line run, so this weekend - oh it's grill time.

I guess it also depends on how much you are going to use it. I'd grill my cereal on there! Some people only grill in the Summer :gheyfight: , but if you plan to go year round - then I would up the $200... good luck and enjoy whatever you get.

I just picked up this grill
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...506&lpage=none
It's all I need. I don't do much grilling. I've cooked a few steaks on it so far & it seems fine for my needs.

Thanks for all the help guys....I'm going to go look tomorrow and Lowes and some other local stores. TBone, I know what you mean about only buying something once but I don't know where I'll be in two years so I would hate to spend all that money and not be able to take it with me, I'm fine with it being a $200 "throw away" grill and then step it up and buy a good one after I get a my own house and whatnot. Good thinking about Craigslist, I'll definetly look on there and see if anything is local.

Thanks again, Ill let you know what I end up with.

I just got the same grill for $240 at home depot. i think it was 500 or 600, but if you catch them in the winter you can find some good clearance deals.

Also check out Target. There is a thermos bbq grill that was highly rated and I believe is close to your price range.

My hardware store sells used webers for under 200 bucks, my genesis 3 burner is 15 years old and works awesome. I have a newer 800 dollar Jenn-Air stainless steel for eye candy and the external burner, but for parties I still wheel out the old genesis.

I would check craigslist for a used weber. People like me do the idoiot thing and "upgrade" only to find that the weber is far better than most grills under a grand.

Vermont Castings is good too I hear, but $$$

Here is the cheapest genesis: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...001&lpage=none

Maybe the extra 100 bucks is worth it in the end? My 450 dollar weber is still going, and was bought in 92 (by my rents)
