My lawn needs your help

Ok, this summer, it was unseasonably hot. The yard got a little burned, but didn;t look too bad. Watering seems to be spot on.

However, towards the end of the summer, some brown spots started to come up. They are circular in shape, and have just recently sprouted some more reddish-brown rings around the spots. The spots seemed to move in from the neighbors yard and are now moving on to my other neighbors yard. What the hell is it?

FYI-I follow Scotts fertilizing plan to the tee and have St. Augustine grass.

yep. been there...done that...

My lawn at my previous house had just about every disease imaginable over the years I was there. Best thing I did that Fairway Green (like a Lawn Doctor Place) suggested was to aerate the crap out of the lawn. So I rented from Home Depot for like $80 for 8 hours or something and tore it up....went over the lawn at least 3 times - looked like a football game had been played. Did that in the fall. Then I dropped a bunch of Rye grass down (good seed, little or no other junk in there) The following spring - it came up gorgeous and I no longer had the funky diseases. Aeration was key for me. You may be able to treat it if this is the first time you got it. One of these diseases, maybe this one, are near impossible to get rid of - that is why they told me to aerate - he could keep chemically treating it, but obviously I had an environment that was suceptible to disease, so he suggested I aerate it really good - otherwise the real problem would never go away. That seemed to help me out. good luck!

How often were you mowing your yard? Like Tbone said, have you thought about trying to aerate the lawn? I do maintenaince work for a golf course, and they aerate it twice a year, 1 in spring, and 1 in fall. Keep us updated on it...

Most likely a disease or fungus. Try to water in the early morning or late afternoon/early evening, so that the water doesn't sit there for hours over night (and feed the fungus).
