Sounds like a plan to me!

How soon are you planning to start on yours after you move in?

Thanks LawnPro! I'm trying to balance my patience with getting it done right against my desire to have it done now.

Hoping to follow this schedule:
Electric finished by Christmas.
Ethernet, speaker wire, and conduit by new years.
Insulation by end of January.
Sheetrock up, and finished by end of February.

One of my buddies is an electrician so he's hooking me up for pretty cheap. Should be done in the next two weeks.

I'll post some pictures of what kind of look we're going for with whole basement. We'll be putting carpet in the main area, tile at the bar, and 3/4" rubber flooring in the gym area. We were originally thinking stamped concrete since you can do so many cool things with it, but we have hardwood floors through the entire house and I really want a comfortable living space with soft floors.

Thanks!

I hated the 'highlighter yellow' color that our house was when we purchased it, and the neighbors did too. We've had some pretty bad hail storms here the last couple years and they did enough damage to justify new paint and sealing the house up again to guard against wood rot.

I like hardwood but I'm a fan of carpet myself. My basement floor is stained concrete...looks pretty good I guess. Definitely different. Have to wear shoes or sandals 24/7 though.

Here's the floor plan for the basement.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/87244476@N02/8461536111/http://www.flickr.com/photos/87244476@N02/8461536111/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/87244476@N02/, on Flickr

I haven't posted many pics because I've been busy buying everything Monoprice sells on it's website.

Cat6 runs to each of 3 TV locations, plus additional drops, keystones, and wall plates.
Coax for each possible DirecTV box location
RedMere HDMI cables, HDMI Splitter, HDMI wall plates
Gigabit Ethernet switch 8 port (may need to upgrade later but 8 will do for now)
16 AWG Speaker wire, speaker wall plates, banana plugs
Conduit....lots of conduit.

Thanks guys!

Here's a pic of the workout room with foamular, framing, electric, and part of the A/V done. Still need to run coax, and 2 more ethernet drops to the TV.

I was originally going to spray foam the entire basement but decided the cost wasn't worth it. So now I'm going back and sliding 1/2" R3.0 foamular behind the studs, gluing with liquid nails, sealing the seams with Tyvek tape, and filling any caps with Great Stuff.

Start thinking what you want to use the space for, layout, technology, and any additional cool things you could possibly fathom to do with the space. I have done a ton of reading on AVSForum.com where are a lot of guys with great ideas and a wealth of knowledge. Very similar to the experts we have here at AZine.

Nice start to your basement Devil Dog, I really like your idea of saving some $ and going with the 1/2" r3.0 insulation.

Thanks!

I'm also putting in R13 faced batts for a total of R16. Code here in Overland Park is R12 for basements. Saves a ton of money over spray foam!!

Also pulling out all of the crappy old stuff in the joists, putting in 1/2" R3, and sealing with Great Stuff, then installing new R13 batt there too. Going to be super cozy all year round!!

Looks great. What HDMI Switch did you purchase. Word of warning with the Monoprice HDMI switches. They usually don't work well with longer run HDMI cables. The redmere cables may help. I can get you a better quality switch if you have trouble with the one you purchased. Once you try it out, if you have issues, just PM me here.

I just got this HDMI Splitter: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

The total run including the splitter is 60' so it's going to be close. I'm going to simulate the run using two of my other HDTV's from upstairs before I close in the walls in that area. Can you send me a link to the switch you're talking about?

I've also ran 2 additional Cat6 cables to each TV location in case I need to run HDMI over Cat6. Better safe than sorry!

Great idea to run the Cat6. It is always a good idea, not just in case of HDMI failure, but also to future proof your home. Consider HDBaseT over regular baluns as they are far less problematic. I also sent you a PM about the HDMI switch.

Pulled out the old loose non faced batt and put up Foamular sealed with Great Stuff to stop all leaks:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/87244476@N02/8484463528/http://www.flickr.com/photos/87244476@N02/8484463528/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/87244476@N02/, on Flickr

Cat 6 with keystone installed and tested to make sure no lines were broken, coax ran, and if you look closely you can see white tape and string which covers the conduit in case I need to pull a cable through in the future.

R13 Insulation up and stapled, all coax labeled and organized, media wires tested, new alarm installed, and ready for sheetrock!!! Installation starts tomorrow for the workout room.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/87244476@N02/8484459632/http://www.flickr.com/photos/87244476@N02/8484459632/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/87244476@N02/, on Flickr

We're just finishing the workout room first, then I'll continue with the rest of the basement. We have a baby girl on the way in July so we must move the workout room from an upstairs bedroom downstairs so we can turn it into a nursery. Gym will be done by April 1, nursery by July 1, and complete basement within 1 year.

Nice to see the sheetrock start to go up for you! Makes it feel more finished - compared to looking at stud walls.
