Mouse in the house.
So my wife bakes cakes for a hobby. She does wedding cakes and other occasions. I brought a second stove to setup in the basement that has been in the garage for a year. The stove had furry tenants... I removed the stove 2 days later but not before the tenants tried looking for a new home. They are now nesting in the stove in our kitchen.
I have setup traps with peanut butter all over the place and sticky traps by the stove. I want to kill this thing or things ASAP.
Anyone have any secrets to getting rid of mice.

I've only ever had to deal with a couple of them, but sticky traps work pretty damn well.
Put some bait on it (in a high mouse traffic area).
If you're really concerned, call an exterminator.

Freakin hate mice. We cleaned a few out of my brother's garage. We were able to ambush a nest and kill some of them, but the few that got away we used some claw traps on them. I can't find a picture online, but they're similar to mouse traps, just look like a claw that snaps. They can be baited, and/or placed next to a wall where the mouse will try to hop through it and get nailed.

I caught an adult in a snap trap overnight. So that confirms the live one I moved from the stove was a baby. So that tells me I might have at least 4 more babies hiding somewhere. I am hoping that the babies are too young to care for themselves but the one I found had its eyes open.
In any case I am winning at this point

^ We had a few when we moved into our current home since it was a short sale and was empty for about 6-8 months (plus, we live in the woods). Called our local exterminator... after a few months, got rid of them. We'll see if any wonder back this fall/winter... but we've sealed off the house pretty good since last year... so we should be ok
But that would be my recommendation. Get an exterminator. In addition to eliminating what is there they can find out how they are getting in and help you to seal it off so they do not get in in the future. Probably a good idea if your wife bakes and sells cakes using the mice's dwellings...

I am 95% sure that I brought them inside with the second stove. We have been here 6 years and I have seen lots outside but this is the first they have been inside. The house is sealed up pretty good.
I forgot to take a look at the one killed in the trap last night to see if it had teats. That will confirm if it is a female and if the babies are weaned yet. Now I have to dig it out of the garbage can... yuck.

One baby in a trap this afternoon gave me some new clues where to look. I dug around my wifes boxes of knitting stuff and bingo! I found the nest. A small nest with 2 more babies. So that is one female and 4 babies. The little ones were big enough to walk around - more like bounce around but look like they still need lots of attention from mom. I threw the 2 from the nest outside to let nature take its course. There might have been 1 or 2 more in the litter so I have left out the traps for a bit more just in case but I believe I have won!!! After I dumped them in the garden I thought that I should have taken some pics and kept them for my buddy whose kid has a snake.
Oh well...
Edit: Was still in the edit window for this post and another baby in the trap... That makes 5 babies which is closer to the size of a typical litter.
