For the love of Santa!
Ok, this is getting ridiculous. Today is October 1st and Target already has aisle after aisle full of Christmas decorations. There should be rules on when it's ok to start selling this crap. I went in to pick up some Halloween stuff and I could hardly find it because it was already pushed into the back corner to make room for Christmas stuff. This is insane!
Has anyone else experienced this where you live? Who else is putting stuff up already? I didn't noticed it at WalMart on Monday, so is it an Oct 1st thing, or is Target just that messed up that they're trying to get a jump on the failing economy?

I would bet that they're already up. I would assume Target would roll out stuff at the same time across the board. I'm just waiting for the radio stations to start playing Christmas music... there's one station here in KC that starts on Nov 1 at midnight... The kids haven't eaten their Halloween candy yet and they start playing that stuff... what ever happened to "holiday season"? It's frickin' "Holiday Quarter" now.

It'll likely be even worse than usual this year with the bad economy. Stores will want to try to get people xmas shopping even earlier this year to try to get a jump on sales. Little do they know, this burns people out and they get so sick of seeing xmas decorations by the time the real season comes around, that they aren't even in the mood to shop anymore. Defeats the whole purpose if you ask me. Not to mention it commercializes the holiday even more than it already is.

Im a manager at walgreens and we already have xmas stuff up. Not full blown xmas aisles though. Just gift wrap, toys, and light sets (but those are completely merchandised).
Couple reasons retailers do this. First they have buyers and the buyers have to make deals with the manufacturers to get merchandise in. Once the stuff gets into distribution centers, it must get to stores to reduce carrying charges. And since the stores get it early, they need to get it out on the floor too. They still get the added inventory costs but this gives a small chance to sell early.
I agree its a little scary to see xmas in october, but its the way it is in retail.

I noticed Costco and Lowe's have had x-mas stuff out for at least a couple of weeks now.
