Just signed for an apartment!
As the title said, I put the security deposit down on an apartment today
No more driving 2.5 hours a day.. Instead it will be 20-25 minutes round trip!!!
I got a pretty sweet place. It is a 2 bedroom, but more like 1 master bedroom and an additional room. 980 sq. ft. with a nice deck, complex has full amenities. It's costing me $920/month, but it will allow me to save 2 hours of my life every day.
The only real problem is that it is on the first floor, which I don't care about, but my Mom doesn't like
Has anyone had any real trouble living on the first floor? FWIW the neighborhood is gated, and is in a pretty safe area.

You shouldn't have any problems living on the first floor. Moving is 10x easier living on the first floor, and as long as your smart about it (i.e... dont leave your windows open in the spring or fall while your away) you will be fine.
If you are a little worried about it, refer to this thread https://acurazine.com/forums/ramblings-12/what-gun-get-362536/

Yeah I'm not worried at all.. I think my mom is worried because I'm going to be living alone. If I can somehow come across them I might try to find an alarm sign and/or stickers and just put it up outside. That way people will think I have an alarm but I won't
As long as your neighbors upstairs aren't assholes, living on the first floor is great. Just make sure your gate actually works and talk to your new neighbors to get a feel of the place. I live on the first floor and have some bug problems despite them spraying. Also, my neighbors upstairs have kids who don't know how to behave despite me asking the parents to tell them to stop stomping. If you have a problem with them, just call the cops if the complex doesn't do anything about them. I, too, had decided to quit fighting traffic and it's made my life a whole lot better not having to deal with all of that stress.
^ Ty for the responses. I have a couple friends who already live in the complex so that was a plus when choosing to move. I had a choice b/w a 580 sq. ft for $750 (1 bedroom) or this 980 for $920 (2 bedroom). No brainer IMO especially since I will probably stay at the same place for minimum of 2 years.
I'll get some pictures up whenever I settle in, but the lease doesn't start until September 28th, and I won't have my stuff moved in until a week after.
@mn2trance: The shorter drive is definitely going to be a huge plus. That and I'll be able to sleep in almost an hour longer.

Congrats on the move...I'm working myself up to one myself... but childsupport
me...Before my Ex left me I had a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment, single floor complex so no upstairs neighbors... Elementary School about a block away including a baseball diamond/community park which was not part of the school. On my block there was a bakery, convenience store, laundry mat, Mexican restaurant, Seafood restaurant, candy store, and Butcher store... 20 minutes from the Mexican Boarder $600/mo. in Somerton, AZ...
Lasted a month there then the Ex left me with my daughter in the Apt. and a week later she came back for my daughter. So I returned to work here in California...
oh well... started over... but thats another thread and another story...Either way... Don't want to thread hijack... CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I've lived on the first-floor in downtown San Jose and had no problems. I'm sure your neighborhood is much better. And, yeah, like others said, just be smart -- don't leave windows open or leave curtains/drapes/blinds open so people can see stuff inside.
Good lord Water... you just don't change. The OP is excited about his new place... I'm sure he doesn't give a flying fuck about your parents house or your payment plan with them or your fucking barn....
To all - Thread cleaned... let's not shit it up again or there will be bans. Take note, we're not in Ramblings anymore.

i actually prefer living on the third floor.
but living on the first floor is convenient for moving in/out, groceries, etc.
also make sure you set your blinds (if you have them) correctly so people can't see you from outside.
on, and congrats!
