Invisible Fence

Anybody have invisible fence?

Any idea of the cost? They wanted to come and give me an estimate, but I wanted a rough estimate first and they would not give me one. If it is to much, then i wont waste my time and theirs. If it is close, we will talk...

Any idea? I have a very small yard that is easily to dig..... Maybe 60'x60'...

Not sure of pricing off-hand, but my neighbors had their yard done and it was pretty reasonable. I believe they only did their rear yard. Not sure of the size, but it's a large yard.

As for performance... they love it. Keeps the dog in the rear yard and lets him run around without them having to install a fence. Only thing is it took him some time to learn that when he was being taken for a walk out of the front door it was OK to leave the yard. He automatically assumed the end of the yard equaled a shock... so they had to train him with a different color color for walks verses the color that had the device on it.

Humm, I didnt think think that a different colar would make a difference. But I guess, since my dog knows what the leader is. she hates that thing, but she walks so well with it on..

I saw those do it yourself kits... But the wife is being a pain the a$$ about it. Says it needs to be done by a pro. it is only taking a wire and digging it in the ground. The rest is up to you to train your dog....

Then she is worried about her leaving the yard and not wanting to come back in..

I wonder if I can get a matching collar for the wife.......

The Invisible Fence company came and did my whole yard-ended up being around 4k, but we are talking about 3 acres. They also came back 3 times to work with the stupid Dalmation. They have really good methods to get the dog to understand the basic ideas behind the invisible fence. When my mom took the stupid Dal to our house in Maine, she brought the flags and put them up. The retard stayed within the flags at all times. Just remember to take the collar off before you put them in the car, etc.

There's alot of people in my subdivision who's got the invisible fence. Kinda weird the first time I ran around my neighborhood...dogs started charging after me then suddenly stopped If I run into any of the people on my route I'll ask them the cost.

Well it's like a neon color (whereas the other one is white) and doesn't have that device on it... so I'm assuming there is a difference in contrast which enables him to recognize one from the other...

We've had it in two places now....well worth the price (cost something like 1200 to do our townhouse and 400 to wire our new house- .5 acres). WE love it. Our lab knows where she can go and where she cannot and we can let her roam the yard with no fear of her getting in trouble. In my mind, it is well worth the price!

Obviously each IF franchise is individually owned, but our IF office has been wonderful. I can call up the owner and he'll remember our dog's name and will take care of any questions/problems (very few of those) in a very timely manner.

I also wanted to add/clarify my answer above.
The second house was much cheaper to install IF in b/c we took the equipment with us. The collar and the smartbox are the most expensive parts of the installation. The wiring is truly just based upon the size of your yard.

I also believe that our insurance agent was interested to know that we had IF- don't quote me but I believe that we got a slight discount on our policy.
