I got a house!
the mortgage/insurance/tax payment is more than comfortable... but the first year after closing/furnishing/etc/etc is going to hurt.
i've spent the last year never having to think about how much money i have because i knew i had plenty in the bank... now i'm going to have to do the paycheck to paycheck thing for awhile. haha

As long as you're disciplined, which you are, you can totally take advantage of it. You think we would have had the money to furnish this place?? No way, but thanks to 0% we do

Congrats on the house too... I looks really nice and I'm sure you'll love it. Figures you wait for me to move 800 miles away to get a place and have AZ house parties

I'm in North Carolina... Charlotte area to be exact. I thought I had told you I was moving? Posted it in the Mod forum too to let everyone know I'd be on and off for a while as we're settling in.....
It may have been posted when you were away....

The cool thing is my company kept me on, so I'm working remotely from home. If I ever need to go to NY, they just have me come in a few days and they pay for it... so I may be able to make those parties after all

The post office has a "Welcome Kit" for address changes. Includes coupons for local merchants and normally has a 10% off coupon for Lowes or Homer D's. Soopa & Mrs Soopa get one, use one when you first move in...use the next one on your one month anniversary, when you find all the "little stuff" you didn't think of when you first moved in.
I used it for over $500 worth of blinds, paint, new faucets, etc. Saved me a bundle.
That's a really sharp looking place.
I live in a 60year old home that I've renovated myself. It's a ton of fun, rewarding, and the appreciation in value is an extra bonus. Just start slow and work up to the big stuff. You'd be surprised what you can do on your own.

this is great advice that is really hard to follow when home depot is so close, you will find yourself dropping by home depot at least 5x in the first month...
must. resist. urge. to make daily trips and wait for the list to build up to make the coupons worthwhile...
that being said i installed a new digital thermostat this weekend with 7 programmable days from a thread a few days ago

I'll PM the link to you so I don't hijack Adam's thread any further. Once I find the camera I'm going to sort all the pics and get them up in an organized fashion for anyone who wants to see....

Good advice this is
We got a kit and it had 10% off any TV $999 or higher at Circuit City. Well, all of my Reward Zone points are at Best Buy.. so we waited for the TV to go on-sale, went into the store, got 10% additional off, plus CC was having a promo with a free 5 disc DVD changer.... so we got that too. Best Buy matched Circuit City's offer and honored their coupon as a price match. Best part... we still have the coupon!! Gotta love the Welcome Kit!!

Congrats on the purchase. Hope the house does not have a "history" with
paranormal activity.
Congrats on the house, Soopa. Definitely has character, unlike the cookie cutters in SoCal. The interior seems to be in good shape and seems like the exterior just needs cosmetic work. Hopefully the home inspection doesn't uncover anything significant and doesn't missing any "surprises".
Again, congrats on joining the ranks of us mortgage slaves
