How to get moss off of a tree?

I have a few trees in my yard that have moss on the first 1-2 feet of their trunk. How can I get the moss off of the tree without damaging the tree? Also, is there any way to prevent it from coming back?

You could try some of this stuff: Kocide 101

If that's not your style, you can always try mixing some baking soda with water and spraying it on the moss. (try about 1/2 pound of bs to each gallon of water)
