Help me decorate

Ok, I suck with colors and I hate carpet but I'm stuck for the time being. I wanna paint my yellowish walls and replace my tv stand. I plan to wall mount the tv, paint an oceanish bluish green for the walls, bought the following orange sofa, and I'm looking at the white tv stand. Is this going to look terrible on the creamy carpet?

I'm open to ideas but I'm getting the couch haha the media center thing I have got badly beaten in my move it has to go. Also, need a coffee table.

Room, excuse the mess I just moved in

Get a paint chip and put all the colours together to see how they'll mesh. Just try to tie the colours in the room together in some way so it'll all make sense (artwork, area rug, curtains, etc) if you can/want, otherwise it might end up looking very mix-matched and random.

Haha no it is all black, that tv is whack but I like the stand. it comes in shiny red, black, and grey too.

Street - yea, you are def right but I'm terrible with color and the orange is a bold color. It doesn't come in till the 18th but I am so tired of the room that I wanted to have it done when the couch came.

You could go with an orange, silver, grey and black theme! Think of it like the interior of some cars:

You could go with grey walls (maybe a silvery bluish grey) and the orange sofas. Your TV would fit in perfectly and you could go with a glass and metal TV stand that can have VERY dark wood or is black or just plain metal and glass! It'd go with more of a modern theme!

your carpet may kind of look out of place and you can replace it with something darker if you want. Personally, If it really looked odd I'd just buy a giant area rug and put that there. But then again I'm not bold enough for an orange sofa!

EDIT: you can also keep your current stand, but I'd remove those glass doors and the tracks and instead just leave them open.

Thanks guys, car pic looks awesome

CS - the carpet is what scares me, this to me is a modern look and carpet isn't. I have never had carpet and it was a real deal killer until I learned the unit was brand new. Not to mention it is just a rental for a year till I can move back to Florida so I'll survive.

Yea, the couch is bold but I guess it's my south Florida side haha. Found some pics of the color I was thinking for the wallls in the light blue. Thoughts? Is the room too small to pull it off?

Like this rug but I think rugs look funny on top of carpet

That light blue would look nice and so would that grey in the picture below that! I wouldn't worry too much about the carpet and if you don't like how the carpet looks you can always get that area rug which by the way looks really nice!

An area rug over carpet won't be so bad, if anything you can get out of having to steam clean your carpet when you move out!

You don't *need* an area rug to tie in all the colours -- you can still do that with artwork, throw cushions, accessories (vases, sculpture, etc) and/or curtains.... Just make the colours work together in the space in *some* way so the room makes sense.

Uhh, did you read the first sentence of the post where OP 1StGen says he sucks with colours?

That's why I always went with clean, stark black and glass furniture-- it always works with every color. No idea how to use an orange sofa, though.
I've also used an area rug on top of carpeting before... it was a black area rug (w/geometric shapes of bright color) on top of cream/tan carpet.

I like the blue color that you posted in that last pic, but get something other than a white TV stand, gray or black

So take a colour swatch of the orange couch and go to Benjamin Moore and have them help you (OP) pick out a few colour options for the wall. Tell them you have a black TV and plan to get a xx-colour entertainment centre as well. They'll help you pick out a few different options -- some you probably never thought of.

Personally, I wouldn't make the walls *too* dark. Although some people call it 'modern' - I'd find it very gloomy and dim. You look to have some decent (but not great?) light coming through the windows... it can look bright, modern, and cheery without it looking like a dark slab of concrete.

You could also do it slightly backwards (although you've already ordered the couch)....go find a piece of artwork or rug or whatever that has the orange of your couch....see what other colours are used in the piece. Use that as inspiration and incorporate those same colours in your room. Often people do that --- have a piece of art or sculpture that they absolutely love and build the whole room around it.

Thanks all. Bought some paint (aqua smoke) and spent a few hours painting with some really nice results IMO. Can't wait for the couch to come in and to get a tv stand. I think the white will look good and modern but would shiney grey or black be better for the tv?

What do you think and sorry for the dark pics? I was worried the room would look small but it didn't

Looks like you got potential awesomeness

I like the suggestions of grey, which I think your wall color delivers.

Like how the dark browns and black compliment the orange. Looks like window treatments are going to most important, and I always save them for last

Looks really nice. Might be my monitor, but I see some grey, blue, green tones in the paint colour. Think it will look nice!

Thanks all and sorry for the dark pics, been working 7 days a week so I took an afternoon off and time I was done, it was dark. The carpet is lighter in person and the paint is weird, grays, blue, green all in one but still bright.

I'll post pics on the 20th when the couch comes. Thanks again

Hey, yea but it has been so overcast I was hoping for sunny pics. Not used to having such a small room and the couch fills it. Mounted the tv, got the white stand which is ok, love the couch but need to get a painting behind the couch, coffee table, pillows, and maybe something to put on the tv stand (vases or something to break up the white). Any ideas?

Whole room where you can see I was changing my sheets ha the old stand is in the foreground and is now sold thanks to CL.

Couch - very large, maybe a bit too large for this room

Surf board I was going to mount above the couch like my old place but m not sure it works with the couch color

Any ideas on a table or other things to finish the room?

mount the board, the colors will be far enough apart that it won't matter that they aren't identical.

nice place.

Thanks bigtuffguy

Getting closer to being done. Need a floor lamp and plant of some sort to finish it off and possibly something for the media stand top. Loving How the IR repeater keeps everything hidden and the Harmony One controls it all nicely. Just need a longer USB cord to hide the hard drive.

Wish the room was bigger but thoughts?

Sorry for the bump, I like what you've done with it. I'm just browsing trying to get ideas for my place.

I feel like decorating your own place is worse then modding cars haha it's addicting and expensive!

Staying on topic...know of a good place to buy a dining room table? Actually I need a bar table with chairs. I've looked around thinking I'm going to spend like $300 but they are way more expensive then that!!
