Can I get my deposit back and leave without any worries??

Hey guys idk if this is the right place for this thread but anyways here is my situation

moved into an apartment which i thought was going to be solid, turns out it's quite the big shit hole filled with trashy people, drug dealers and illegal immigrants.

I had a party, some people got to loud, the Mexican downstairs comes up, slams on my door loud as all hell, says to shut the fuck up otherwise he'll make us. We played it nice and said sure no problem.

Few days later by buddy is outside for a smoke, same Mexican guy pulls out a glock and asked if my friend saw anyone touching his truck and if he did to tell him cuz he was going to shoot the guy.

Like wtf? where did I move.

I'm a neat freak and always keep it clean, yet still I see bugs it's gross. On top of that my water is still running cold and the shower messes up when I try to use hot water. I complained many times, still no help they won't fix this shit.

Top things off, i was talking to my neighbors the cool ones outside and she told me the Mexican guy told her if we were loud again, he would come up and shoot us all with a shotgun and said to my neighbor to keep her doors closed so she wouldn't get splattered with blood...

That part doesn't bother me, it's just there is NO GYM, shitty parking and people have been getting their cars broken into, apartments being robbed and drug deals out the ass.

I was wondering if I could some how say I feel unsafe and threatened by the mexican dude and want to move out and get my security deposit back, what do you guys thing?

With those problems, I don't think I would worry about my security deposit!

haha, it's not AS bad as I made it sound, but it's all the truth, i don't wanna lose any money if i leave, I need some legal input i guess.

I'm only 19, im the youngest resident here, so it's not like I'm doing half bad.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I think you are out of luck with the deposit though unless the office is really really nice and let's you have it back. Can't hurt to talk to them and see what they say.

All you can do is explain your position and ask. Regardless of their answer, I'd leave.

Leave.

To tell the truth, with the way things are economically, and taking into account your age (and making some general assumptions - i.e., you're not earning $60k/yr), the best thing to do is find a roommate (or two) and find a 2 (or 3) bdr apt in a GOOD part of town.

IOW, instead of spending, say, $600 a month on your place, find somewhere for, say, $1200/month and split it with a room mate.

You might also consider finding something further out from the metro area, depending on you specific needs.

In the long run it won't cost you much more (if any) and you'll be MUCH more comfortable.

I will never ever live in an apartment.

you can lease a house for about $1200/month (in my area anyway)
have a couple of room mates like bearcat suggested.

Take notes from them. Even in Cali you can find a 3bed/2ba for 1250 a month, so I'm sure you can find something good in Cleveland. Apartments just flat out suck.

Have to agree with the masses... I'd just leave regardless. And definitely look into renting a bigger place or home in a nicer area with some roomates.

I'm thinking you may have an outside shot of getting your money back if you file your complaints with the lease agency/office. If they cannot present a solution, you may be in luck. That said, if they're just one of these large leasing companies, they're probably going to tell you to stick it. If it's a smaller company you may have a chance. Either way, I'd move...

I decided to bite my tongue and just rough it out, my least end Nov this year, top help save me more money for when I move out, my rent will be split because I got a room mate moving in, a buddy who is like my brother knew him since I was 8.

So I'll be paying $275 a month now instead of $550...once it's up I'll see where I stand, if I should go back home (parents are begging me) or find a rent to own house, something a long those lines.

APARTMENTS SUCK, I love living away from my nagging parents, but it's crappy when your neighbor complains that they heard you having sex and were mad because they had a 5 year old son, how's this my fault?!

$275 isn't bad at all! Stick it out if you don't fear for your life. Hope it works out man

My apartment has turned out great! I have awesome neighbors, great front office that actually get's shit done (it's new so not much to get done haha) and it's in a nice part of town. So not all apartments are bad

But I'd be very careful with roommates...never know someone until you have to live with them. My gf is going to court because of a psycho roommate who was her "bff". Bitch.

^true that, I hope all is works out, the reason why he is moving in is because he would kick it a lot at my place and spend his weekend here, after a while he just decided to ask to move in, we also both work at Sprint so it makes stuff easy.

Not really fearing for my life, I'm not a bad guy and no one should have any issues with me. If it gets bad, with me being Russian and befriending a ton of Arab buddies because of my hookah addiction, I'll be okay, but I DO NOT want it to come to that.

WISH me luck, if they leave my Slowbaru a lone, I'll be okay.
