my parents called me over to take a look at their lawn. wow. it was horrible. weeds everywhere, dead grass, the list goes on. is the best way to save this lawn to buy sot and just cover all of yard? any suggestions?? thanks.

 

For laying SOD you need to REALLY prepare the soil. Can you do that? It's very laborous job. Else weed out the weed and try with watering and seeds first.

 

Where are they located? And what kind of grass do they have.

The approach truly depends on the condition of the lawn. Are parts green? Is it all weeds? All dead?

These details will help me get a better idea on what to do. It may involve some detaching, a core aeration... And certainly some overseeding.

offtopic: but how do you get rid of unwanted grass/weed. in my front yard it use to be just dirt and wood chips. and after a couple of months there these grass/weed growing. it is so hard to pull it out. the roots just grab in the dirt. it is coming from the neighbors yard. is there a way to kill it with some kind of chemical witout killing my flowers??? sorry for the thread hijack.
