Has anyone expanded their current property?

So I've tossed around the idea of selling my house to go bigger BUT I like the area I am in, great schools etc. I have some room to expand nothing big maybe 3-500 sq ft. Has anyone expanded? I know some people that have but there after result was so shitty because 1) They hired a crappy contractor or 2) It just look like it was slapped to the back of their house.

So if anyone has pictures of their extension such as a living room would you be able to post them up? I'm going to be calling around next month to see what the ball park figures would be.

I think the final result depends on the type of house. Some houses just look fugly when you add to them, and some look awesome.

not sure where you live. but in high tax areas of NY tristate, many are deathly afraid to expand as it triggers higher taxes, and potentially an entire reassessment, in which case an expansion could bump up your taxes another 10-20k, depending on your basis, and expansion size. razing the entire house and rebuilding is actually more frequent than a substantial expansion for these reasons.

granted, my perspective is in a bubble, where people are constantly fighting to adjust their taxes downwards, and the thought of an expansion would be a huge gamble with the taxman...but id look into that as step one

I built an entire finished basement in my last house. Added 900 square feet, including a den, bathroom and bedroom.

I've done something similar for my new home as well.
