Granite kitchen counter tops - edge

For those of you with granite counter tops - what type of edge did you put on there? We have a choice of like 4 different ones - do not recall the names off hand. What do you all have?

I guess it all depends on the style of kitchen... I prefer a simple square edge.

We did the bullnose....we liked the smoother look and didn't want any sharp corners.

We have a bullnose as well. Nice and simple and a little safer for when there are kids around.

Our last house had an Ogee edge. We would have done it down here too but the builder down in NC wanted way too much for it... so out of the choices we had, we liked the bullnose the best so we went with that.

Beveled bullnose.

Basically the top of the bullnose is a 45 degree andgle. It gives off a great reflection as opposed to a bullnose because you have another small, flat surface.

http://www.black-granite-monuments.com/edges.htm

has a lot of the edges. If you overlapped the full bullnose and the 1/2 bevel, that is the bevel bullnose. Ours is 3cm, so there is no lamination of the edge, and the transition on the edge is smooth.

Great custom edge.

Last house had 4" granite splashes with the same edge as the counter, great appearance.

1/4in Bevel.

Personally, I would have preferred a chiseled rockface...

http://www.dixiestone.com/marble_edge.htm

But its not for everyone.

Personally, also, I really hate bullnoses on natural stone. It reminds me of fake counter tops like corian/laminate/etc. If you're fortunate enough to have stone, make it look like stone. Don't make it look fake.

Bullnose doesn't make it look fake. Plus, typically the corian down here is either a 1/4" round or Straight edge... similar to laminate.

Honestly, from far away, many of the edges look the same. As mentioned, we had an Ogee edge in NY, but from a distance it looked like a bullnose. Only when you got close could you tell the difference. This is the same with a lot of the edges... especially on darker colors.

That Rock Edge is sweet... not sure how kid-proof it is... but pretty cool stuff.

I think I am going with the Ogee...just have to check it out once more. Rough edge is nice, but not an option and looks like it would skin my 3 year olds head pretty good! That is why it is good there are options for everyone's taste and budget. (And I think the color is Tropical Brown....)

Like I said, personally - it reminds ME.

Bullnose looks really cheap to me for whatever reasons. It just doesnt look/feel like "stone" to my eye.

I also don't like the fancy edges.

Obviously though, like I acknowledged, my style is quite different from most.

How thick is the granite that you have? I find that I like the chiseled look better, the thicker the granite gets. Saw some 6cm stuff with a chiseled edge

Well, most builders only offer that or 2 or 3 of the fancy edges... so not many options there. When picking an edge the first thing I think of is... will this slice a kids head open. The next thing I think of is, if I hit it with something awkwardly, will it crack. Conveniently, bullnose passes both tests
