Fair price for drywall installation?

Just exploring options... I was going to hang the drywall myself, but have decided to at least explore the option of having someone hang it too. I'm definitely hiring someone to mud and tape.

The guy who did the mudding and taping in my garage will do it all for about $40 a sheet, everything included.
  • 4'x8' drywall delivered
  • Mud, tape
  • All other materials
  • Labor

At first pass, $40 sounded a bit high. But after you include the delivery and all materials... I dunno... Maybe it's not that bad?

That sounds right in line with a quote I recently got for 6 sheets of 4x10 @ $50CDN each for my kitchen. That is with lots of cutting, corner beads, etc.

Thats actually a pretty good price, I usually charge almost double, but then again it depends on the quality of the installation and the amount of thats being installed. 100 sheets compared to say 10. How many coats of spackle they are going to do and do they sand it?

This guy mudded and taped my garage for me, so I've seen his work. He's a union painter. He didn't sand anything in my garage. He somehow manages to feather the mud out and make it so damn clean. He does great work.

He has figured 29 sheets. So for all materials, labor AND I conned him into priming it all for me... $1100 cash. Which is a damn good price I think.

I've gotten him a lot of side business, so I think he's doing me a favor in return. I'm exicted to have him start.

the labor ends up to be like 600. Which is nothing. but if its all straight wall then it should be pretty easy.

I paid $1,200 CAD for mud and tape only (including material). I laid 55 sheets of drywall so I guess that works out to $21 per sheet. Mud and tape only.
