getting rid of pests in the summertime

well, we live near the susquehanna river, it is about 300 yards away from the house.
last summer we noticed that there were a ton of flying bugs and mosquitos.

you couldnt go 30 seconds w/o getting bit.

what can we install/buy/do to keep these critters to a minimum?

help please b/f spring

How about a mosquito magnet? I don't know anyone that owns one but they seem kind of neat to me.
