Garage Floor Coating
Garage Floor Coating
Hey all we are building a new house and I want to put some sort of coating on the garage floor. I want it to look nice and be easier to clean than the concrete. I've seen a lot of ads for this product, anybody ever used it?

Read all the warning about it. New concrete needs to cure for a while before you can coat it. You do the moisture test with the saran wrap taped to the floor. It's all about the prep.
I put this on my garage floor after I moved into my new house a few years back.
It's excellent, and no issues at all with it. Well worth it
Make sure whatever product you use, you follow the instructions VERY carefully.

Depending on where you buy it, you need one box per (1) one car garage. So if you have a three car garage, you will need to purchase 3 kits.
Cost is about 50-70 bucks a kit depending on where you buy it.
Try Lowes or Home Depto.
i was checking that stuff out at Lowes not too long ago, i believe it was $49.99 a kit.
what do you guys think works better? the stuff available from Lowes or the u-coat it stuff?
also, Rustoleum makes a "Professional" line as well, any pros/cons?

You can't go wrong with this stuff.
I will never have a plain conc. floor again. Epoxy coating FTW!

Are the "chips" anything but decorative? I'd prefer not to use them.

I would imagine that when it wears down you just put on a fresh coat. I could be wrong though.
thanks for the tips guys...i just had a house built and need something like this for the garage floor
btw, how long does the concrete have to cure before coating?
...and is there something I can buy to seal the driveway concrete before winter?

It can be quite slick without them when the floor is wet.
FWIW is vacuum and then wet mop my garage floor...
I don't know how the floor would "wear down"....other than beating it to hell and chipping or cracking the epoxy resin coating. If you apply the coating per the instructions....and apply a generous (not thin) coating of material it should last for a very, very long time.
If the epoxy is coming off of the floor, my guess is it was applied incorrectly.
Either the conc. was not cleaned well enough, (this is a BIG part of the prep, and will make-or-break the job) or it was driven on before the floor had time to completely cure (I believe it was 5-7 days).
damn, the Rustoleum website says that the weather has to be higher than 60 degrees Fahrenheit during application and above 50 at night.
...i guess i'm not doing this until spring

i did the epoxy coating on the garage floor as well....the only thing i have to complain about it is when it rains and you drive your car up into the garage, the water just drips and puddles there.
i think before i put the coating on...the water will just eventually seep into the concrete and go away...but with the epoxy coating...i have to squeegee (spelling?) the water out....and since i'm in seattle....fall/winter/spring sucks LOL
