Epoxy garage floor paint experiences
I am looking to paint my floor and I was looking for some tips.
Here is what I planned on using.

There are a couple of threads here if you search. I believe the most important tip is that you need to start with a clean surface. That means your concrete needs to look like it is brand new, no grease/oil/dirt.
Should look nice if you can evenly distribute the "flakes."
As an alternative, I know Costco sells giant sheets of garage floor covering that you cut to fit. I think they also sell 2'x2' rubber tiles with the diamond plate design on them. Again, cut to fit.

I had a painter do it for me for 400 bux for a 3 car garage. He etched/cleaned with acid then painted over it. I came out pretty good, but it can be pretty slippery when wet and also the flakes like to come out where the tires go over.
I put this stuff down as soon as we moved in... Took great care in making sure the floor was clean before putting the stuff down.
And after 4 years, its pulling up where the tires sit. Oh well.

Is the epoxy floor slippery? I don't like how my concrete floor gets slippery when wet (cue Bon Jovi song)
Costco has the same setup that Lowes has, except enough for a 2.5 car garage and for only another 20 bucks or so.

I used the Valspar/Quik-Crete kit.
We've been in the house 10 years, so we swept and mopped for at least a week before we felt it was clean enough to etch.
I figured out garage was ~480 sq ft. The coverage estimates on the package were pretty close; 1 Gal Paint/Activator = 250 sq ft; 1 Gallon Clear/Activator = 500 sq ft.
I definetly recommend the Clear Acrylic top coat. Really finishes off the floor. And now it is SO much easier to clean with a quick sweep and mop.
Since I did so many coats (Etch, Grey, Blue, 2x Clear Top Coat) it took about a week to finish and another week before we parked on it.
Can't speak to durability since it's only been in about 3 or 4 weeks.
Over all pretty easy once the prep work is done. A few pics, FYI.

Thanks guys; appreciate it. :grin:
The floor was part of an overall "5S" cleanup - it was long overdue
.
Points for LT though are:
- Except for the cleaning/prep and waiting for the coats to dry, very easy;
- Paint Kit Coverages were accurate as far as I could tell;
- The Acrylic Clear really "finishes" the floor and makes for quick and easy clean-up;
- The finished floor is something you can comfortably roll around on while working on your car, etc.
If you've got questions about the products or process or anything, just PM.

I painted my floor about 1.5 years ago with Rustoleum.
Initially it looked awesome!
Since then it has been wearing underneath the tires. I live in CO so it goes through a pretty harsh winter, sand, dirt, etc. My wife still thinks it looks good. I'm just pretty picky.
Cleanup is super simple. Oil just wipes up.
I'd love to do something different, but don't know what would hold up better in our climate.

Do not go with Behr at Home Depot. That stuff sucks!
I put it on about 3-4 months ago, and even though I REALLY cleaned the floor, it's starting to come up where my wife parks her car. It sucks.

If you drove your car home and left it in the driveway for the tires to cool, then put it in the garage, it would be all good. The hot tire makes it peel up. Brake fluid also had peeled it up. I am going to coat mine again maybe this month. Do what Bearcat suggested and clear it afterwards. It will look a lot better.. I know this process needs to be done every 2 years. It will be 2 years for me in July.
I bought a 2 car garage kit from Costco for 90 bucks or so. I'll do it sometime over the next few weeks and then I'll paint the garage a nice complimentary color. My wife thinks that I'm crazy for giving a rip about the garage, but it is the only room that I can decorate! Besides, I went to one of my daughter's friend's bday parties and the father loved his epoxy floor.
What about vinyl flooring? Any reason not to go that route? Looks very easy and sturdy?

I did my floor in the rustolium epoxy. I also put on the clear coat over the top for a glossy finish. The hardest part was etching the floor and cleaning it. The floor is coming up in a few places where I used the jack.
I will post pics in a little bit. My internet is acting weird today

my brother and law put in the Behr stuff after seeing my floor and it really sucked! It was coming up all over the place.
