Epoxy basement floor help

I bought some of this stuff

http://www.rustoleum.com/Product.asp...ct_id=57&SBL=1

I was planning to do my basement floor and was wondering if anyone had any tips/advice on this before I get started. I'm pretty new to do house work, but am pretty handy. The biggest pain will moving out the washer, dryer, and slop sink to gain access to the whole floor.

Anyone have and thoughts or experiance this?

Edited the title for you so it says epoxy and not expoy

I've never done it. I did look into it for my garage but decided against it b/c of horror stories I heard. Doing it in the basement is actually a GREAT application for the epoxy. From what I remember you need to make sure that you really clean the floor before you put the epoxy down. The one I had was a kit that came with some chemical cleaner that you needed to use before applying the epoxy. If you just bought the epoxy, then you should be able to buy the cleaner separately. Doing that step allows the epoxy to bond to the floor better so you don't get any lifting/peeling...

are you going to leave it unfinished - meaning no carpet in the future? What family members have used and I have to is just a clear UGL Masonry Treatment. It's pupose is to keep concrete dust etc from coming up. Friends and family have used it in their basements - both finished and unfinished. I used it in my garage and it was GREAT - no tire pick-up or anything. Relative recently used the epoxy stuff for garage floor and it was terrible - lifted from the tires - but you said basement - so maybe all good. JB said it - clean the surface.

i put an epoxy seal on my garage floor....i pressure washed first, or you can vacum to remove all the dirt (since its a basement not a garage), then i just put down a coat, then applied a second coat...

I've used the rustoleum product in my garage.
Things you should do for best results:

Pressure wash the floor.
Clean all stains on the floor with abrasives...use chemical cleaners or abrasive brushes.
(be carefull not to be too abrasive)
Use the cleaner that comes with the kit as directed.
Roll the rustoleum product on thick....don't let it get thin spots.
If you are using the gray color it is hard to see where it may be thin.

The biggest concern on the epoxy "lifting" from the floor comes from hot car tires.
Since you are using it in the basement...you should have no lifting problems.

PM if you have more questions.

I put this stuff down on my garage floor.

The key is PREP. You have to make sure the floor is 100% clean.

Is the floor new, or is their oil an other stains? If it's not new, you'll have to take your time to make sure you clean this properly.

Good luck. It's a nice little investment.

I did my garage floor and used muriatic acid to etch and clean the floor. If you do this in a basement, wear a respirator and leave a box fan in the window to suck out the fumes.

But as mentioned, prep is the most important part.
