Electrical help

now I know this probably belongs in another forum but i was hoping to put it here for a quicker response.

We sold our house and will be renting for a couple years. The new house we will be renting does not have over head lights in the rooms. There is a switch in each room thats works for one of the outlets. The lights that I have bought from IKEA are hardwired. Is there anyway that I could convert them so that I could plug it into the wall and then use the switch to turn the lights on?

Thanks in advance.

you could hard wire the leads to a line cord and plug it into the outlet. I probably won't be the prettiest install.

Sorta gotta see the setup of how the light mounts and where the outlet is to figure out the best wiring scheme...

we were hoping we could just screw into ceiling and then run a wire to the side of the wall and then down the wall and into the outlet. I know its not a clean looking install but I am just renting so I dont care. If it was my house I would have an electrician wire it all the way I want.

so you are saying that i could take the two wires that I am suppose to wire into the ceiling wires but instead wire it into a line cord and plug it in?

Buy an extension cord and cut the receptacle end off (the non-plug end). Strip the wires and use splices to connect the extension cord to the lighting wiring.

Use ones like the blue one below. You'll need to figure out the thickness of the wire to determine what size splice you'll need.
